Drinks next?
Prohibition doesn’t work. This is precisely how you end up with a black market for cigarettes and (paradoxically) drive *up* demand for it because now it’s a forbidden fruit that more people want to try.
Conservative cunt throws shit at the wall in desperate attempt to stay in power.
Fixed the headline.
Because prohibition always works and never has any consequences

So no smoking if you were born after 2010? That would do it, and it’s easy to remember. How do you handle visitors from other countries?
Our governing bodies are so arrogant to think laws function like computer software. Program in restrictions and the software responds accordingly. Humans don’t work that way. You tell enough people they can’t do something and the governing body will soon realize the don’t have has much control of the software as they thought.
I’m always surprised these days when I see someone smoking. I’m sure there’s still a lot of people who do, apparently still 13% in Canada, but I don’t encounter it very much (maybe I don’t go out very much). It just used to be a lot more prevalent, and especially noticeable in restaurants and bars until the ban here almost 20 years ago.
Weird to think my high school and university at one time had ashtrays in the hallways.
Probably just a trial run before doing it with retirement age.
Just let people smoke wtf. The more I see this shit the more I want a cigarette, and I haven’t smoked in 2 years.
Him and his wife must have shared in Juul or something.
New Zealand did it better. I can’t remember the exact year but kids born after it will never be able to purchase tobacco products. Those that currently smoke may do so until their demise.
It’s not going to stop smoking and organized crime profits will go through the roof.
Will work as well as banning flavored vapes in Finland. We now have 10 year olds using disposable black market vapes with lead in them.
And increase smuggling and gang related incomes.

Best way is to do the Swedish Norweigan approach and make Snus legal. As the UK isnt in the EU that option would be available. Sure youd get more nicotine users but it would decrease smoking, and in the long run decrease medical expenses.
White snus (nicotine pouches) are the safest option, as there is no tobacco at all.
Ya, people always listen to the “smoking age”.
I gave up smoking alnost 3 years ago. But who the fuck isvthat Sunak idiot to dictate what adults can and cannot do. ESPECIALLY SEEING AS THE GOVE8 GET A TON OF TAX MONEY FROM SMOKERD
That will be a fast growing black market

The thing is…. when you get fucked in the arse the first time it hurts and it’s rough walking the next few days.
But when they ease it in gently over time over and over again… it starts to feel like just another normal day…
My toothpaste used to be £1 less than 2 years ago… it’s £5 now. I know it ain’t got shit to do with smoking but fuck me in the arse
In the US, it’s still super common in certain work environments. I don’t think I’ve ever had a blue collar job where at least a quarter of the guys weren’t smokers. A full half or so sometimes. Then you look at the medical system, and you straight up won’t find any smokers at all.
Excellent. You’ll always get people saying bans don’t work, but if it eventually drives smokers underground and not standing three feet outside the exit of every pub or puffing their filth into the air on every street, I’m all for it. Shame it’ll take a long time as it’s only being applied to kids for now.
How can you tell an adult what they can and can’t do? Stupidest idea ever. Don’t they tax cigarettes in the UK? Canada makes millions off of smokers and drinkers.
Prohibition doesn’t work. Tax the hell out of it and accept that humans don’t act in their own best interest when it comes to most things, but *especially* what we consume.
Or we can just let people choose, prohibition doesn’t work. And trying over and over again, just shows how stupid you are, and that you aren’t paying attention.
If we could just get it through to them how much they stink, maybe they could at least have breath mints on them at all times and wash their clothes from time to time.
That’s brilliant.
And Tobacco companies can propose assassinating sunak
I moved to Mexico a few years ago and the number of people who smoked cigarettes shocked the hell outta me, after being in a mostly public-smoke-free state for all my life it was jarring, to say the least.
NZ ahead of curve on this one. Pretty much the only thing
Smoking was pushed big time during WW2 and became culture for a while. When it stopped being advertised in movies/cartoons it became not so cool anymore. It’s slowly going extinct
Why bother? There will always be smokers. If they want to take up the habit and kill themselves, let em. In Canada cigarette brands have generic packaging and you still see kids taking up the habit.
That’s a smart idea
Genius
Not a smoker myself, but I find this silly adults should be able to decide for themselves. When considering legal vices alcohol is arguably much worse than smoking if you compare them side by side. Yet it is much more accepted.
Because prohibition totally works!
We are doing this in NZ.
We do this is New Zealand
