The only reason he is here is because he made a sworn statement that he couldn’t make it to depositions for a lawsuit he filed because he was in NY at this trial. It not only backfired in that he now has to be here, but the depositions have been moved to NY so he can’t actually get away from them. Again a lawsuit he filed.
his lawyers also knew at least a week in advance if not longer out that there would be no jury trial. Personally I think they didn’t want a jury because it could potentially go worse for them, and the chances for appeals is less.
This is a civil case so his chances of appeals working is a lot higher, and everything can often be put on hold while appeals go on. With that said he already appealed something major and got denied by all 5 judges pretty quickly. I suspect we will see more of that with the appeals.
This is likely how he typically acts, which is why his lawyers don’t want him in the court room but they backed themselves into a corner. If he wasn’t there he would only know what he was told by his people, and his behavior can be more easily contained.
Interesting, but not surprising, as to which trials he shows up for. He wasn’t present for the civil case for defamation and rape but when it comes to his money, he’s there.
