  6. At this point, I genuinely don’t understand why they are doing this from a military perspective. There is an abundance of purely military (though not legitimate) targets they could shoot, why, just why has it got to be a GROCERY STORE? I don’t get the strategy behind that.

  9. I’m sorry, I need to rant.

    This is what happens when European nations decide that “prepared for war” means only “prepared to defend an invasion against our territory” and no effort is made to ensure readiness to carry an offensive action or help a neighbor.

    There are too many nations, Russia being one of them, who does not value the lives of their soldiers and will not care about intense casualties among their army. As a result Ukraine, who was prepared only to defend with no notion of aggression or seizing the initiative early in the war lost millions of its people behind lethal zones of occupation.

    This is the result of europeans deciding that “readiness” only meant “readiness to play prevent defense.”

    If a European nation is not prepared to ensure that if a hostile neighbor invades their territory, the party will be happening on the invader’s territory as well as their own, that Europeans nation is not prepared to truly defend itself.

    No one will fear to attack you unless they think you can set their own house on fire. By being ready only for defense, one concedes the initiative to the aggressor and massive human suffering among your own population is the only possible outcome. That is not defense. That is not preparation. That is delusion. That is failure of forethought.

    In Ukraine’s case they may have had no choice. They are not strong enough to take the Red Army head on and the corruption in their society, that they are actively resisting but is still present, hampered their efforts to reform.. They did what they could.

    But other European nations of much greater means need to be aware what this means for them, and if the hords ever appear on their own borders, what it might mean for their people. Prevent defense is a horrible war strategy and if you only have the forces to fight in this way you are guaranteeing that your own people will suffer the worst in any war. You are making a war against you easier, and that’s literally the exact opposite of the real purpose of a military at all

    Furthermore, a Europe with an actual rapid response force that could coe in and prevent larger scale penetrations of territory against a European nation would have gone a long way towards Russia reevaluating the strategic wisdom of invading in the first place.

    Because again, a Europen army of at least 150,000 men with the aircraft, armor and other equipment to back them up, with both the funding and mandate to intervene to prevent European wars, would have meant that Russian leaders’ houses might indeed burn if they invaded Ukraine. Which is the single easiest way to ensure a war of aggression does not start.

  11. I am the fool because I allowed myself to think that we were passed this. This is completely acceptable to Russian warfare, it wasn’t an accident or a miscalculation. Why that’s okay for the governing bodies of the rest of the world to overlook is mindblowing to me.

  12. Cowards, every last one of them. This has nothing to do with warfare; this is state enforced terrorism, tyranny and bordering on genocidal policy. I don’t want to hate anyone, but right now I’m so infuriated that I won’t mind the entire Russian population to be put before a firing squad due to their utter incompetence to even attempt to do something right. I guess that them not acting human makes it ok to hate them…they don’t have feelings after all.

  13. They realize they cannot win the war on the battlefield. So, this will start happening a lot more. Expect another Syria.
