  8. You can’t have it both ways. Either you ask for a property tax reduction (like the trumps did) and you don’t get to complain about the property being “undervalued” for equity loan purposes . . . or you take the higher property value with its corresponding higher property taxes.

    Sounds literally like what they’re charged with. What a surprise.

  10. Michael Popok (Meidas Touch) gave a detailed explanation – with firsthand knowledge of the area and the rules – of why Maralago isn’t worth $1B “as is”.

    Trump had to make a lot of concessions in order to actually live there. Those concessions apply to whomever buys the property in the future and that brings the value down exponentially.

    The tax evaluation is always incredibly smaller than the market price. Nowhere will you find a house evaluated as it’s selling price and taxed as such. Don’t ask me to explain why but it just is

  17. I appreciate the thought, but it continues to blow my mind how uninformed even folks in our government are regarding how property values and taxes are estimated.

    While fun to joke about, this has as much validity as suggesting the judge valued the property.

  19. And everyone who has a functioning bunch of grey matter in their head knows that the only way residential millage is calculated is via sale, or a re-appraisal from a licensed appraiser, and NOT the public opinion of the homeowner.

  20. This is a huge issue throughout the US. About a decade ago, there was an oil refinery in Texas that argued and won the value of the property was half the county’s tax value. A year after the refinery won, it sold for twice the county’s tax value.

  22. As a property it’s worth 28M. As bribe and money laundry asset, it’s worth 1.5B or whatever he can make the Saudis “pay” for it. Who will then turn it around in a couple years for 25M and write the losses off on their taxes.

  29. Of cource they should. Trump has publicly stated — from inside a New York court building even — that Mar a Lago is worth $1.5 billion or more, so of course he should be pay taxes on the basis of that.
