  1. It seem like Sunak has replaced HS2 will bullshit and bluster

Not surprising though, anyone taking the Tories at their word, only has themselves to blame

  2. They won’t do anything they promised. Everything in Sunak’s speech will be gradually U-turned until they aren’t actually doing anything.

And Labour refuse to promise to do anything either. This country just will not build infrastructure.

  3. it’s not a u-turn, it’s a reallocation of brain cells which will be better for everyone. Only Labour do u-turns.

  4. Of. Fucking. Course.

Shame too, it would be an excellent diversionary route.

  5. High speed de-rail.

The train now approaching this station is scheduled to u-turn and go back into the collective hopes of northern voters.

  6. What the hell does this government have against trains?

  7. So they are already walking away from these amazing new projects they announced ***checks notes*** yesterday.

Did they just not have enough projects to make it look like a fair swap for hs2 so just added random stuff hoping no one would check back to see if the stuff is done

  8. This is an absolute disgrace. Total fucking shambles.

To explain a little further, despite inventing the fucking thing, the North East suffered massively with the Beeching cuts shut down most of the branch railway lines. Then when the coal mines shut many towns were left further isolated.

Some of those towns actually lie on the east coast main line, but electrification removed (for the pantographs) the all important fourth rail to ensure ‘fast’ and ‘stopping’ lanes in both direction, and such is the demand for London- Newcastle- Edinburgh (and transpennine but they don’t run anymore) that any sort of stopping commuter services are not possible.

Re- instating the Leamside line would provide effective four tracking and dramatic capacity improvements in one of the most congested rail lines in the country. It would also open up significantly large places for commuter trains. Places like Gateshead, Low Fell, Birtley, Chester le Street, Ferryhill, Washington, Houghton le Spring and others for better regular commuter services to Newcastle, which is the London of the North East and opens up deprived areas access to better jobs
