Yeah, he wasn’t a pawn! That implies someone is using you for their will. He did it knowingly and willfully.
There’s so many reasons this is stupid. For defamation, libel, slander, etc, all you need to do is prove that the statements in question true, and five minutes of reading the results of ‘Giuliani Russia’ on google would give you 7 years or so of results that make it very cleary that Rudy is indeed a Russian pawn.
The only remaining question would be if he was knowingly a Russian pawn, or just dumb as a sack of hammers.
The FBI briefed Trump, Biden, and Giuliani himself on Russia’s documented efforts to funnel misinformation through him to Trump. This is a matter of record.
I would absolutely love it if this ridiculous civil lawsuit produced evidence that led to criminal convictions for Rudy. *That* would be justice!

Truth is an absolute defense to defamation.
Truth is an affirmative defense to allegations of slander and libel. I know it’s been a few decades, but every first year law student knows that you don’t bring a definition suit if you actually did the thing.
His actions align him with Putin, so he is a pawn, relationship or not.
I would think you only need to prove that Russia likely sees him as a pawn; not that he is actively trying to be their pawn.
It would be truly ironic that in bring this case he could incriminate himself and further hurt his reputation.

People are more skeptical of anything Biden claims than any other person in the country. No one even believes he’s trying to forgive student loans even after he’s already forgiven billions of dollars in student loans.
Giuliani is a ‘public figure.’ The Supreme Court says statements against public figures must be ‘knowingly’ false. See New York Times v. Sullivan (1964).

There is likely evidence Giuliani was indeed being manipulated by foreign sources.
