Hi, Reddit! Recently, the whole village gathered vegetables for the Ukrainian Armed Forces. Of course, the guys receive food, but people are very eager to share their home-grown harvest.

9. This reminds on a smaller scale of going to my grandparents house every summer with my cousins to help with gathering up fruits and vegetables to fill everyone’s freezers until the next summer! Good memories!!

    Haha once again, it starts out with one little diminutive ~~babushka~~ babusya with like 3 squashes…

    … and then more arrive and there’s a pile of vegetables …

    … and then there’s a whole trailer truck. And then multiple trucks.

    This is how it builds. From individual action by individual people, each small on its own but amplified as regular people work together.

    This is what drives so many critics crazy about Ukraine. They are going nuts out there. I don’t know if you’ve seen how insane Ukraine makes them.

    Because Ukraine’s resilience against the invasion is entirely due to this collective determination by regular people — regular people with all kinds of disagreements and different beliefs and differences of perspective and so on, but who have come together for this one purpose.

    There is no titanic cultural figure that gives Ukraine its legitimacy. The closest they have is Zelensky but what is he? Just a public servant. He was no celebrity before the war. He is not even wealthy in the sense that the “movers and shakers” of the world mean wealth. He is nothing.

    … Nothing, by himself. Like a ~~babushka~~ babusya with 3 squashes, by herself. But… it adds up. And that’s what so many people can’t stand. That regular people can band together and dictate the course of events. And defy those (like Putin) whom they have anointed as “significant” or “important” or who “matter.”

    Putin, with all his vast wealth — perhaps the single wealthiest and most powerful person in the world — yet he can be defeated by a plain, ordinary people who send vegetables from gardens in trucks. Because those people act together.

    Hmm.

    I wonder why the power elite everywhere in the world want us to think that Ukraine can’t win.

    I wonder why they are so invested in convincing us all that plain, ordinary people can’t defeat the anointed elite. Even when we can see with our own eyes that, indeed, they can do so.

    Hmmm hmm hmmm. I wonder why….
