When you watch the interview, CNN should NOT have made this the headline. It was kind of a throwaway comment. She does need to be more careful as she comes across as fully denigrating but this line wasn’t about Trump supporters. It was about politicians.
During the 2016 election Trump supporters specifically and Conservatives broadly:
– Claimed that Hillary Clinton was dying. That she had some illness she was hiding from the public.
– Claimed the Clinton Foundation, which was a global leader in providing HIV/AIDs medication to improvised nations, was a money laundering scheme.
– Claimed Hillary Clinton was holding under age migrants as Slaves in the basement of a DC Pizzeria.
– Claimed Hillary Clinton murdered Vince Foster and numerous others
Hillary Clinton has been a continuous target of the Right for decades. Yet when Hillary Clinton steps forward to say MAGA is a cult headlines feign outrage and ask if she, Hillary Clinton, crossed the line. One really can’t make this stuff up.
The Germans did have to “formally deprogram” the Nazis in their population. Denazification was real and necessary. The MAGA movement is very similar. History doesn’t repeat itself, but it sure does rhyme a lot.

Every person I’ve met in real life who has fell into this cult are the type who see something on an internet and believe it without any question because it confirms their bias. They are emotionally committed to the group think that is required to be a part of the cult. I worked with a guy who genuinely believed that Biden will be thrown in prison after being elected and vaccines were a form of population control. It would be easy to dismiss this person as “stupid”, but he was a fellow software engineer, and you could talk to him about other issues and be reasonable. He was intelligent. But you could literally see a switch flip when it came to his political beliefs, and it was very similar to religiosity in the way it possessed him and robbed him of the reason that he utilized when discussing other issues. Also, he had a strange compulsion to turn every conversation, when possible, into proselytizing these beliefs even when politics are never being discussed. In fact, anytime a conversation I had with him that would turn to this, he was always the one to initialize it. I made an effort to never talk about politics at work because its unnecessary, but it was almost like a compulsion and obsession for him that he couldn’t resist which shows how ingrained it was into his psyche like it was a biological imperative.
A lot of people are very brainwashed, and you can’t fight that with a reason and facts. They genuinely need to be deprogrammed like they do with cult members. It’s a fucked-up situation.
She’s not wrong. It is a cult. And the sooner we reckon with that, the better. They are being driven to a dangerous place by people who do not have their best interests at heart.
