Props to the goverment and EAC for their great contribution to the island and the affordable electricity provided as a basic good.
We all know how hard is to run as a monopoly electricity provider to an island of just 1mil and with no competition. Especially when there is so much sun 👏👏🙏🙏🙏🙏

If you use solatr energy for what are you gonna charge people?
Electricity is 0.33+ per kW*h here and keeps increasing. It’s expensive, I’d say ridiculously overpriced.
Thank you EAC monopoly and corrupt govt!
Πήαινε Μάλτα τζιαι κρούζε παραπάνω.
Disgusting – latest bill was 50% electric cost and 50% fuel adjustment charge !

Malta is interconnected to Sicily and thus Italy. Cyprus is islanded system. So, you are comparing apples with oranges.
To increase renewables you need batteries to support the system (if you are not interconnected to other countries). To put batteries you need to invest **lots** of money. That money need to be paid by the consumers. Thus the prices will stay high.
Generation and supply of energy is not a monopoly in Cyprus. Anyone can apply to build a power plant or sell electricity. Especially with the high prices they should be rushing to do that, right? Nobody does though because we are just a spec of sand. The market is so small that it’s not worth to invest.
Btw, I paid 50 euros for 938 kWh of consumption. I have a 3kW rooftop PV system.
Disgusting. I am living alone and hit with a 450 bill because A/C, a fridge and electric stove is a luxury here
