The problem is that Israel uses the Bethlehem Principle (named after a person not the place). This defines self defence as taking action before you are attacked against people who are, OR MIGHT BE, thinking of planning an attack.
This can be made to mean anyone including civilians. Is this why they target civilians or are they just indiscriminately murdering people? Either way anyone else would consider this a war crime..
Yes, of course they do but they don’t have the right to use the violence to justify their murder, kidnap, torture, assassination and persecution of innocent people and the silencing of critics.

Now there are seven million Jews, 2 million arab israelis and 4.5 millions arabs in the occupied territories. More than six million palestinians live abroad
They have been robbed of their country fifty years ago and most of the arabs live highly constrained lives in the occupied territories and have no meaningful democratic rights
Given the indifference of the world to their plight, is it surprising they turn to violence?
And they have the right to protect themselves from Isreals constant land grabs.

I really do think there’s a way you can resist occupation without parading a corpse around to let the population spit on it, but hey apparently not.

What Hamas has done is awful but we can’t be hypocrites and not say the same for Palestinian people defending themselves and decades of innocent people killed. Both sides are awful as each other whenever innocents are involved.
Now no one in Israel will care how much damage the Israeli government inflicts upon the Palestinians.
