  1. Israeli air strikes destroyed a tower block in Gaza City after Hamas militants launched a rocket and air attack on Israel in the early hours of Saturday morning.

The Israeli army launched Operation Iron Swords against Hamas in the Gaza Strip, with Israel’s president, Benjamin Netanyahu, saying the country, is ‘at war’.

Al Jazeera journalist Youmna El Sayed was reporting live from Gaza the moment the missile struck Palestine Tower behind her.

Sources in Gaza said at least 198 Palestinians were killed in the strikes.

Very early days yet, but I suspect this will get much worse.

  2. Never is. And thus the cycle continues.

However, due to the large number of civilian hostages taken today I can’t see Israel stopping anytime soon. So rockets from Gaza will also continue. It’s a circle of shit.

  3. I think people might believe that the attack is over now and Israel is just starting airstriking in retaliation, and although a lot of Hamas have returned, there are still unknown numbers of fighters and hostages present

The army is still fighting the militants door to door in the area and to extricate hostages held by militants stuck back inside israel

Rockets are still being fired from Gaza and Israeli airstrikes are only getting started

This is on a totally different scale than the normal fighting, and one which will almost certainly get worse in the coming days – casualties on both sides have not even been calculated in todays fighting

  4. The Netanyahu tactic- keep aggravating the situation to further embolden terrorist organisations. Wait until they give you the perfect excuse by launching an attack. Go all in.

  5. I’m surprised Gaza hasn’t been turned into a car park yet

  6. Kind of glad he and alot of major parties are saying that, too many bloodthristy folks in worldnews and other foreign leaders giving isreal go ahead to flatten gaza. When it’s both what Hamas and Isreal current government wanted. This shit is Netanyahu wet dream and as for hamas it prevents normalisation of relations between Isreal and it’s neighbours.

  7. A whole lot of innocent civilians are going to die. Hamas are thugs and Palestinians would be better rid of them. They can’t claim self defense when they kill Israelis civlians.

Having said all that, I see the news and see that the IDF kill Palestinians civilians on a regular basis. They manage to avoid international outrage, as they keep the numbers low enough, but they do add up over time. Not to mention the ongoing brutal occupation and expanding settlements and various other bullshit that Israel does to Palestinians.

Murdering civilians isn’t the answer, and never was. All Hamas will achieve is a lot of dead Israelis and even more dead Palestinians.

  8. The count on the Israeli side is 250 currently, it would probably be around a thousand by the time they finish counting the dead. Currently the injured are 1500, it will also be much much higher. The current number of hostages is 53, but it will also be higher. What would be a proportionate response according to you?

I can’t think of any other response than entering by ground, uprooting Hamas, and combining it with the West Bank under the same governance. It would even help with the road to a two state solution in the future.

  9. Hamas have done it now, Israel have an excuse to go to town on Palestine.

And they don’t even need an excuse usually

  10. He’s right, it hasn’t been proportionate. There’s still buildings standing in Gaza.

Anyone supporting Palestine in this moment is no better than the fascist bootlickers supporting the Russians in Ukraine, and don’t come here with some nonsense about innocent Palestinians. The Palestinians are guilty through their tacit or explicit support or Hamas, just like how many Russians are guilty for the war through their support for Putin.

I hope the west will cut off every single cent of aid to these extremists.

  11. Something going overlooked is Hamas have hundreds of hostages too.

Some sort of ground war seems inevitable. Hard to believe this will just be the usual rockets and fighter plane retaliations.

Honestly anyone taking sides in this openly is a dope. We will see mass depravity on both sides is my prediction.

  12. If he thinks bombing raids on Gaza aren’t proportionate he probably should turn off the TV for the next few days.
