Wasn’t this guy advertised as the more moderate solution?
Omfg…
As a CHP voter, no I dont, gtfo…
People who don’t know enough about Turkish politics think of the CHP as some supposedly pro-Western progressive party. The reality is that the party represents the most extreme version of Turkish foreign policy. They often align with Erdogan on the most chauvinistic questions (the CHP has called for the invasion of Greece for example) and are quick to support positions that one would usually expect from non-European countries in the East. As is evident here with their support for Palestinian terrorism against the state of Israel.
This guy was sold as “pro west” but anyone that knows Turkish politics even a little realises that the main difference in ideas is regarding the figure of Erdoğan and how turkey should increase its influence on its neighbours. Erdoğan or not turkey will stay mostly the same.
Perhaps I judged Erdoğan too harshly
Openly supporting Israel is political (sometimes literal) suicide in Turkey. Don’t expect any political party to not pay lipservice to Muslims in some form.
Slowly becoming Iran 2.0 isn’t it ?
🤦🤦🤦
To be honest you can’t make pro-Israeli statement unless you are 0.x percent party like LDP(Liberal Democratic Party) while media( including pro-opposition ones) is completely pro-Palestine. For example generally Turkish media do not report misille attack from Hamas while it reports counterattack from Israel.
Also parties does not want to anger religious electors before local elections.
Even Erdogan is a moderate at this point
interesting. I dont see turkey going pro-palestine, because of Iran
A lot of politicians going very mask off right now. Don’t know how you can be pro Palestine here, when it was HAMAS, A LITERAL TERRORIST ORGANIZATION that killed (so far) over 500 Israelis

What this old man says is no longer important. He makes such a statement just to put Erdoğan in a difficult situation because he remains neutral. Most Turks condemned the attacks.
What happened to their “pro-West” stance?
I wonder what would be Atatürk’s reaction if he saw this right now?
Even the Georgian man does not support Palestine right now
To win elections in current Turkish environment you have to sound and act more Islamist than Erdogan? Majority of politicians in MENA couldn’t care less about Palestinian conflict and only use it as a rallying and distraction call when it’s politically useful. Erdogan tamed his public support for HAMAS when he needed to rebuild some times with Israeli government.
Jesus man, pro Palestine doesn’t equal Hamas, I fucking dislike Hamas to the max but it doesn’t mean I’m gonna simp for the current government of Israel either. I prefer a secular government and equal treatment for both sides which is best case scenario to solve the issue
He said he is with Palestinian people and doesn’t want war between Palestinians and Israel. That does not mean he supports hamas or their terrorists attacks. I don’t like Palestinians due to historical reasons but that also doesn’t mean I support Israel. Israel controlled Gaza is worst than apartheid in South Africa.
Well.. then should turkey let the 2 million people of Gaza in if they are in favor of terrorism.
Making Erdogan look reasonable
Why would anyone think that any country with a majority Muslim population stand with Israel on this occasion? Maybe Saudi Arabia and some Arab countries would, they can afford to because they are dictatorships but not many other countries with a Muslim majority populace.
Kemal Kilicdaroglu is the worst thing to ever happen for turkish opposition. He and his kurdish-alevi Tunceli gang basically occupied the CHP. At this point you can‘t be even sure if this guys get bribed by the government.
Why is anyone surprised? This is the same man who accused Erodgan of not being aggressive enough when challenging the sovereignty of Greek islands.
I thought that Kemalists were pro-Israel
Lan? Bişeye de burnunu sokma, in aşağı ordan.
Yeah, well, our left wing loves the Palestine People’s Liberation Front.
In turn, our right wing loves Hamas.
In Turkey, only the liberals support Israel. They made their highest point back in 2011 elections, getting %0.3 of votes.
Turkey is about to get another wave of Arab refugees and be racist towards them
Reddit’s darling.
And Palestine was supporting the ASALA terrorist organization…
Chp is pro lgbtq pro western progressive party. It does not support West tho,it supports western values and value of life as a human being.
It is also nationalistic,CHP supporters are either supporting israel or neutral on that case,he said those stuff to be not targeted by islamists and want to be seen as relateble with them, his vision does not represent CHP
CHP follows ataturk’s ideals(at least was following till they unite with terrorist PKK supporters and grey wolves and other islamists groups to overthrow Erdogan but failed)and those ideals are based on secularism, which is not ordinary secularism,it is french laicite.
Chp is a party that considers turkish citizens well being above anything else(regardless if they are islamist/kurd/armenian etc etc all are equal turkish citizens unlike current islamist regime, which favors a muslim arab over a secular turk) and that creates problems for greece, especially considering that they are more approachable and modern makes things even more worrying for people like you because you can not demonize them.
CHP:center-left wing nationalistic party.Pro 🏳️🌈,turkish interests and turkish citizens are no:1 priority regardless of their ethnic background/opinion.Support secularism and a bit islamophobic because islam targets secularism, thus against immigration from arabic countries.Does not compromise on international matters,do think about their citizens equally.Would never accept refugee deal and accept to destroy turkish culture with euros. Not humanist enough to think about “others” if it does not favour turkish interests thus very nationalistic, not your typical left wing party.
AKP:islamists right wing party, anti progressive, want to bring sharia to turkey through democracy.Muslim people are their no:1 priority, they will choose a muslim arab over an atheist turk, religion comes first.Does compromise on a lot of things if you pay enough.Want to eliminate seculars through refugees, wanna destroy turkey and return ottoman empire, the turkish language and anything that seems modern which ataturk brought to turkey disgusts them, they think that this is not the true turkey, this is forced upon turkish people via Ataturk.
Not an expert in Turkish history, but what I’ve read on Wiki (thanks to some Turkish twitter accounts) is that Palestinians have always disliked the Turks and worked against them.
In 1915 during the Ottoman empire, they joined up with the British to attack the Ottomans. I’ve read that they trained and armed the PKK in the 70s, 80s and 90s, actually helped made them as strong as they are now. As well as supported an Armenian terrorist organisation that bombed the Turkish consulate in Paris (1981), attacked Ankara airport (1982) and bombed the check in desk of Turkish Airlines at Orly airport in 1983.
Isnt this guy from the party that was created by Ataturk? Is there any nationalist party in Turkey that does support Israel? Country that helped Azerbaijan and have always (for some reason) denied the Armenian genocide?
I would think the choice would be easy here for the Turks.
The situation in Turkey is complicated. On social media, the majority supports Israel, while on the streets, Palestine is supported. Personally, I wish for this situation to end quickly and for no innocent person to be harmed.
He’s leftist. What would you expect?
Now I’m glad they lost
I don’t know why this sub is treating the attack as some random incident- it’s in response to decades of colonialism and war crimes. Of course, that doesn’t justify the actions of the attackers. I don’t see any response on this sub to the indiscriminate air strikes by Israel which have killed hundreds of civilians.
Seems like people here has started reading news about what is going on in Gaza just yesterday.
Maybe people in Turkiye don’t forget Mavi Marmara.
They have become a joke of their own after the election, so their stance on nothing matters at all. These bunch do not represent me anymore and I am as much opposite of Erdogan as someone can be in Turkey. Turkish opposition (the people) are not represented in politics anymore.
They have gone mad… They completely lost any resolution they had after the last election. No one pays attention to what the fuck they say.
This is such a misleading title that if the OP is aware of his actions, I see ill intent in posting it in this way.
The main opposition doesn’t support any terrorist attacks committed by Palestinian religious fanatics. You are taking his statement out of context here and making it sound like they support the Hamas attacks. His statement was about being anti-war and supporting peace.
Look at the situation of the founding party of Türkiye which implemented many radical reforms at the time. Now they are defending terrorists who attack civilians, rape women, pillage towns, parading with corpses of Israelite people. How tragicomic
So this is Lula vs Bolsonaro all over again
He always finds new ways to disappoint his voters. Atatürk would be ashamed of his party.
So does Erdogan. In fact I would say pretty much every muslim country stands with Palestine.
