I would NOT be surprised to see an Israeli air strike on Iranian nuclear and military installations.
I don’t think America or Europe will stop them this time. The Saudis might even allow the IDF to overfly their territory to do it. It’s a different world than 50 years ago. Israel has much better relationships with Arab moderates and they want to crush the Fundamentalists themselves.

I honestly wonder if the best long-term solution would not be to just utterly demolish and dismantle the Gaza Strip as its own jurisdiction.
No more Palestinian Authority, no more Hamas, but a directly administered special jurisdiction under the control of Israel until such a time as the terrorist groups have been completely rooted out.
It’s pretty clear that the only way the conflict is ever going to end is if one side is going to outright “win” it, and Israel is the only one in a position to really do anything resembling winning here. The status quo of allowing something like the Gaza Strip to exist in your backyard just isn’t a long-term solution it seems.

Possibly dumb question: what if this hamas attack is a test by neighboring countries to see how well Israel can defend itself? Because Arab countries that make peace with Israel because of the threat of Iran would like to know how well Israel can react in case Iran actually does something?

Sure sure. I’m supposed to believe these people can identify and attack 500 Hamas targets without error, just hours after being totally surprised by a massive coordinated attack involving hundreds of Hamas terrorists?

If Hamas can infiltrate and hold several settlements for 2 days, imagine what Hezbollah and Assad can do backed by Iran along with an uprising in the Western Bank. Add to that the reality that most of the population surrounding Israel is pretty hostile to Israel and can topple governments because of their position on Israel-Palestine conflict. Clearly Westerners have a hard time with grasping a new geopolitical reality on the ground. You sound just like Armenians who always pointed to the war in the 90’s where they beat the Azeris. Guess what, Azerbeijan just won completely and utterly. I don’t condone what Hamas is doing but I beg to differ. This is the best sign for Israel to finally accept a two-state solution and remove their settlers. You guys might say, well USA. Yeah, USA is a powerhouse, but Israel is clearly not. If the US has to warn Hezbollah and other actors not to get involved, they clearly have intel that Israel would crash under pressure.
