  5. Too bad this article will be buried and ignored by most on reddit who will keep insulting my country for trying to bring the conflict to a swift end before casualties increase dramatically.

    The parallel to our surprise attack on Israel in 1973 continues. Back then Jordan had betrayed Egypt and Syria and warned Israel of an incoming attack but they did not take the threat seriously.

    I’m not a fan of conspiracy theories usually but Netanyahu got a war that will unite the country behind him after months of division.

    Though once the war is over i suspect people will be calling for heads to blame but maybe Bibi will use his political skills to blame the intelligence services, some of whom were in clear opposition to his government.

    Edit: I would also like to remind people that a few months ago, a rogue Egyptian border guard penetrated the border and killed two Israeli soldiers. You would think after a simple border guard was able to penetrate the quiet border they would have done a review of all their border security.

  10. Ugh. Is this similar to how the US gave public and I assume confidential intelligence to Ukraine and Allie’s that Russia was amassing a huge armored invasion of Ukraine shortly before the war began? I remember seeing headlines saying Russia would never invade Ukraine.

I’m coming around a little on the idea that Netanyahu & the other Israeli government ultranationalists allowed this to happen to shore up support for more aggressive action against Palestinians. With this & other intelligence outlets talking about how long Iran was involved the idea that the Israelis didn’t know seems farcical, and now the Israeli far-right has “justification” and international sympathy to further expand the occupation & settlement efforts.

    I don’t believe the conspiracies circling around that Netanyahu deliberately let this happen, but this is a *criminal* level of incompetence on Netanyahu’s part – and frankly, I’m inclined to believe that him trying to shove loyalists into the Israeli security services would have contributed to this lapse in security on some level.
