Kudos for Ireland, Denmark and Luxembourg for trying.
the tax haven is at it again.
Good. Hamas needs to be destroyed.
Should Israel just ignore the killings of almost a thousand civilians? 10% of an entire village was massacred by Hamas terrorists, and you want Israel to not fight? Ridiculous
Gaza is an urban city, with a high population. There will be civilian casualties, which is part of Urban warfare. There is no way around it.
Shocking how many Europeans and European nations support these terrorists… Gaza = Hamas, it would be the same as supporting Nazi-Germany 80 years ago or give ISIS handouts while they are massacring Yazidis.
Kudos to Ireland. They are one of the only EU nations who experienced colonizations and apartheid theirselves, so they know how it feels. If it wasn’t for IRA the Irish would be still under British (no hate for the Brits but I like free independent countries too) rule today.
For all those happy about genocide may you be guided and may you learn to remove unconditional hate from your hard hearts.
The unbiased and the wise knows that while Hamas attacks were disgusting and in need of condemnation, Israel isn’t and hasn’t been any better in its history, only recently some Israeli parties started to become more comprehensive but now that the fear has been unleashed towards citizens again, far right parties are already rubbing their hands and impatient to genocide millions of people with no way out of a 40 km land stretch (not even from the sea, where Israeli boats routinely patrol that area).
If this is the West and its humanity and its values and human rights, I don’t want anything to do with it, all hypocrisy. At this point I long the day India, China or whatever country becomes the hegemonic power instead of the USA (whose politicians are mostly a bunch of religious Evangelical nutters and their unconditional love and support for a state that has apartheid as its raison d’être)
Headline is a bit misleading.
In the text:
“In negotiations that bounced between capitals on Saturday, Ireland was joined by Denmark and Luxembourg in pushing for a statement to include an appeal to avoid escalation, according to diplomatic sources.”
I think everyone wants to avoid escalation (personally I think that horse has bolted).
For those that only read the headline.
Luxembourg asked for the text to include “a call to avoid escalation” which Denmark and Ireland supported.
These nations all supported the statement supporting Israel that the EU made and asked this line to be included which was not. They did not support Hamas which half the commentors here seem to think.
Did any of you bother reading the article, or are you just going to judge some EU-countries for still having a little bit of humanity left in them? The headline is very misleading.
>Luxembourg asked for the text to include “a call to avoid escalation”, its foreign ministry said.
>
>Their efforts were not successful and no mention of escalation was made in the condemnation of the attack, which was issued on Saturday by the EU’s diplomatic chief Josep Borrell on behalf of the EU member states.
These three countries obviously understand the complexity of the situation and try to make sure the casualties are not excessive.
Christ, what is up with this sub? Is it being bombarded or are we really that quick to turn on each other. What is with all the rhetoric.
Woah the scary word *Escalation*
No one is dumb enough to tell Israelis not to escalate after seeing all the videos of terror, torture, murder and rape victims being dragged around the past couple days.
The headline is very misleading.
Avoid escalation = don’t defend yourselves and leave yourselves open for another attack
I’m so sick and ashamed of the Irish love for Hamas/Palestinians and hatred of Israel. For some reason many liken the Palestinian cause to Ireland’s own struggles with England. Poor education is the culprit.

Thinking about the time Ireland [sent condolences to Nazi Germany on Hitler’s death](https://www.historyireland.com/de-valera-hitler-the-visit-of-condolence-may-1945/).

Ireland with its IRA/Hamas sympathy. Fk off
I dream of a world where the EU represents one of the pillars of justice in this world where there is no justice. It saddens me that many here are automatically linking Palestinians with terrorists. You blood thirsty ignorants hypocrites.
Gaza is 2m people, if Hamas were to be 100k (and they are probably way less) they would still be only 5% of the population. Would carpet bombing them all be the right move? Or maybe cutting electricity (so hospitals stop working), cutting petrol (so cars and ambulances stop working), cutting telecom (so they can’t access the internet and show the world what’s happening inside), cutting water flow (to make them thirsty and lack hygiene) and not allowing food (to make them starve) as Israel is doing [right](https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-12609189/amp/Israel-wants-REMOVE-Hamas-power-death-toll-700-likely-rise-says-military-spokesperson-Iron-Dome-shield-intercepts-wave-wave-rockets-Gaza-Battles-continue-inside-Israel-worst-day-history-Jewish-state.html) now before beginning the offensive tonight?

The irony is that Hamas itself is a creature born thanks to Israel [funding](https://theintercept.com/2018/02/19/hamas-israel-palestine-conflict/).
