The ‘soft dictatorship’ of this Supreme Court

  1. Terrifying anti-government screed. Really concerning to see such calls for overthrowing one of the 3 equal branches of government.

  2. You get the Court you deserve. America is a religious, violent, corrupt, uncaring cesspool. The Court matches that.

  3. When was this written? Doesn’t seem to know Feinstein is dead?

  4. I see a growing trend of people on the left calling institutions illegitimate because they disagree with the decision or outcome

SCOTUS isn’t a dictatorship, they’re just doing their job. This article reads like someone who’s crying that SCOTUS isn’t green-lighting every decision Biden makes. I wouldn’t be surprised to learn the author is 14

  5. The word this title is looking for is Theocracy. The Christian majority on the court issues edicts twice a year from on high that we are all forced to follow.

  6. Nothing soft about it 6 members are full anti democratic fascists

  7. Amazing to see Magary doin this kind of writing. One of the onle non-douchebags from the corpse of deadspin

  8. This article is very interesting, and very important to understand.

  9. It’s only a dictatorship when you dislike their rulings

  10. Liberals used to invent constitutional rights. This is the backlash against liberal judicial activism.

  11. dictatorship is when the judicial branch does its job

their job is to say no

  12. The institution is inherently flawed and needs fundamental reforms to restore its viability. When I say “inherently flawed”, I mean that this was *always* the case. It has nothing to do specifically with the current justices. It’s a problem with the institution itself. It only took the right (or wrong, depending on how you look at it) justices to gain power to put these flaws on full display. What they are doing should not be possible, yet it always was. The only difference was that their predecessors either had integrity, were confined to the minority, or were more discrete in their bias and conflicts of interest.

  13. >’This SCOTUS was engineered to be a political sleeper cell,’ and it’s time to demand its destruction, writes SFGATE columnist Drew Magary

SFGATE?? Okay well, it likely has a decent amount of bias, but maybe it’s well-written and presents some good points.

    >Bulls—t. Pure, uncut bulls—t. If this SCOTUS ever makes a good decision, it’s only “good” relative to the monstrous judgments it now hands down as a matter of routine. Do you know how s—ty this all feels? Do you know how badly it sucks to live in a country where anything your elected representatives do can be wiped out in an instant by nine tenured s—tbags who have zero meaningful oversight and know it?

Okay scratch the well-written thing, but maybe this author lays out a coherent plan.

    >The momentum is there, but only if you stay angry. Given this court’s pattern of behavior, that shouldn’t be hard for you to do. Don’t treat these judges with respect, and don’t allow our elected representatives to treat them with respect, either. Tell those reps that this court isn’t legitimate. It’s vile, evil and must be destroyed. Never stop saying it to them.

SMH… I can’t someone pays this bozo to write for them.

  14. The court has been purchased by the religious right and most of the justices should be arrested for bribery!

  15. There are a LOT of parallels with the Weimar Republic going on, not the least of which is a far-right judiciary rejecting popular democratic reforms.
