EU – New EU renewable energy rules, part of the EU’s GreenDeal, have just been passed by the EU Council.

  1. Poland & Hungary voted against EU President VonDerLeyen’s climate proposals but are overcome by majority vote.Czechs & Bulgarians abstained.

    As a reminder, the Council is the upper chamber of the EU’s legislature, like the Senate in The USA or The Bundesrat in Deutschland.

    EU laws, proposed by the executive branch (Commission), must pass both the Council (elected national ministers) and lower house (Parliament).

    Today’s vote by the EU Council (national governments) approves a deal reached with the EU Parliament in March on a reconciliation of their two different versions of the law (same as it works with Congress & Senate in The USA).
