Also EU has plans to link with central Asian countries and oil gas deals with a caspian sea pipeline and so Russia taking control of this region would prevent all of that. China and Russia gains economic control over the central Asian countries in long term if a link severed to EU. So Azerbaijain would one day fall to Russian control also.
Almost like the knew of Iranian plans or helped them plan.

And complicate the region but I suspect they wanted some sort of Arab spring but didn’t have enough time to plan or arm. And so it didn’t ignite mass civillians from lebenon or palistinian territory crossing borders burning things down in their hundreds or thousands.

Best scenario to thwart is do not commit ground troops and maintain air dominance only.
And maybe bomb the shit out of Iranian military targets seening as they the source of a lot of evil supply chains and wars. A lightening strike done in a weekend with no troops committed prevents a cascade of war.
