After numerous complaints and an influx of the sub, we have decided to make a megathread to post all covid related questions. This is for everyone to ask questions ranging from symptoms of covid, discussions of variants, obtaining PCR/Antigen tests, getting your boosters, medications to help with normal and expected side effects, confirmed implementation/removal of restrictions. This is not a thread to post speculation regarding restrictions/closures

Note: Anything serious should be directed to a health care professional immediately

News articles can still be posted as stand alone posts

The thread will be set by new so all new comments will be seen first, anyone posting new threads that should be here will have them removed immediately.

  1. Anyone ever think that the person who ate the bat/pangolin had an enjoyable meal before plunging the world into this mess?

  2. “Oh, Mr. Reddit, I see your picture on the internet. Tell me, if I swallow my PCR swab, does it count?”

  3. I’ve had travel for a long weekend planned to do Dublin, rent a car, and drive around for four days. I am immunized and boosted.

Are things open? Can I go to the pub? Am I going to have a shit time in mid January?

  4. Vaxed and boosted first symptoms the 28th antigen negative, positive antigen 29th, positive pcr the 30th. Question when is my isolation up? Some websites and news articles say 7 days from first symptoms, hse website still saying 10 days? Lucky to be living alone so isolation is easy to do it’s the boredom that’s the worst.

  5. So I had my booster last Monday, was exposed on Friday, New Year’s Eve, with the exposer confirming a positive antigen test and symptoms on Saturday (not a hangover). Exposer can’t get a PCR due to the obvious lack of availability.
I’m due back to work on Wednesday. How does this work with a)being off and b) getting paid? I’ve told work the above and they’re giving me the time off to do the tests. But with the rules for the covid payment, am I even entitled to anything if there’s no proof (text from HSE) of me being a close contact?

  6. I’m in a queue in a testing centre, a family of 5 came in just after me, all coughing their heads off. The two youngest & most coughing have no mask on. Terrifying.

  7. Tested positive on two rapid tests, albeit the lines were very very faint. Going to try two more tests today just in case. I’ve no symptoms though, just a little bit fatigued.

Getting a PCR booked is practically impossible so I’m just going to self isolate now. A bit of a bummer, because I just got my booster a few days ago. I wonder if I caught it at the clinic, though it was quite empty.

  8. Anyone know what the turn around on close contact texts is at the moment?

I was around a friend who got a positive PCR text yesterday and he put me down as a close contact but I haven’t received any text yet and I’m due back to work in the morning.

  9. What happens if you test negative on an antigen here, travel to the UK and test positive on an antigen over there before coming home?

Are you essentially just stranded for 10-14 days?

Just asking because I have a wedding I’m supposed to be attending in like 3 weeks.

Also, has anyone travelled by ferry to the UK over this time?

What is the process for being checked for antigen/pcr tests when getting on the Ferry.

  10. I got symptoms on Stephens Day, done 3 negative antigen tests, couldn’t get a GP till Thursday though, only got my PCR test yesterday still no result.

I’ve been out of work since Stephens Day, I surely qualify for the enhanced illness benefit?

  11. PSA – I just want to advise everyone about the Genrui Antigen test and it’s reliability. I took THREE tests (purchased at Lidl) and they came back positive with faint lines. I started doing research and noticed a lot of people were receiving false positives and then receiving a negative PCR. I took another antigen from a different brand and it was negative. However with the three positives from Genrui I had a PCR and sure enough it was negative too. Stay away from this brand, it’s not reliable at all and I’ve sent a complaint to the HSE.

    Stay safe out there!

  12. Does anyone know which of the test centers in Dublin are drive through?

If you book through the HSE website are any of their test centers drive through or just the private ones?

Having a hard time finding the info on their website. Cheers

  13. Girlfriend tested positive on an antigen on new years eve.

She then tested positive on a PCR today. Does my restricted movement period end five days from the Friday or 5 days from today? I’ve tested negative on two antigens since and not displaying symptoms.

  14. Does anyone know how long I should expect to wait on a PCR appointment if I got a GP referral today? I’m wondering if it’s worth waiting on that or if I should also try my luck booking one on my own during the midnight appointment rush?

  15. Anyone knows what happens if your pre flight antigen test is positive? (flying from London back to Ireland). Just getting the ducks in a row for the worst case scenario. Double vaccinated and booster got if it makes any difference. Thanks.

  16. I got my booster in Germany, after getting the first two shots in Ireland. How do I let Ireland know I don’t need a booster, or does this happen automatically, or is it not important? I got a cert for it.
