“The bigotry and callousness expressed in Times Square on Sunday were unacceptable and harmful in this devastating moment. It also did not speak for the thousands of New Yorkers who are capable of rejecting both Hamas’ horrifying attacks against innocent civilians as well as the grave injustices and violence Palestinians face under occupation,” she said.
That is a very reasonable statement, and one I agree with 100%.
This is a completely reasonable statement, and one I wish had been issued sooner.
Well said.
She is correct.
Every time someone celebrates or justifies the violence that’s going on it makes it a little harder for us to get to the point where people just stop and think, “Holy shit, all of this is so insanely stupid”, tear down the walls, and put down their guns and bombs.
Stop supporting this flag wavers and start supporting humanity.
Opposition to hatred and antisemitism seems reasonable
While I disagree with her on a lot (not everything), this is the correct take.
This isn’t a religious issue. The issues are very secular and the religious aspects are only used for “justification”
Palestine will never exist in our lifetime because of the actions of Hammas, Iran, and other extremists.
Leftists supporting Hamas are brain dead.
This is the second article I’ve looked at that doesn’t describe the rally.
I am not a fan of the far left (however I’ll take them over MAGA any day), with the exception of AOC. This is more in the bucket for why I really like her, even if I don’t agree with her on all of her policy stances.
These protesters need to read up on Hamtramck Michigan and learn that the people of the cause they’re championing hate them and will betray and destroy them the minute they feel secure enough to start purging their areas of sinful infidel influences (like music and dancing).
Good for her.
I’m fairly certain she will be president in the future.
Look, a nuanced perspective!

I do like and admire her.
Based AOC. I expected a much more radical stance from her so I’m glad she’s being fucking normal about it
Glad she is taking a stand against Israel’s bigotry and callousness /s
Israel is a fascist apartheid state not so different from Nazi Germany. Being against Israel does not make one anti Semitic. That is western propaganda. I like AOC, but she is in the wrong for siding with genocide and slamming free speech like this.
Free Palestine. Be against genocide!
The Israel situation is complex and almost impossible to solve. We helped create this mess but will never be able to fix it.
I’ve seen virtually zero nuance in discussing this issue on Reddit. I am almost completely hopeless that a non-horrific outcome will occur because the majority opinion seems to be that it’s OK for Israel to use whatever force it wants to against Gaza and 2 million people are basically lost souls at this point with no one to defend or speak for them (and no, Hamas doesn’t count they are also an oppressor). I’m glad people like AOC are still trying to help them, because it feels like such a lost cause.
If there’s a nazi sitting at the table and 10 people go talk to him, there’s 11 nazis sitting at the table.
I was at this rally- it was not antisemitic in the least. It was a protest for Palestinian rights and a call for the end of apartheid. Very disappointed to see this misinformation being spread by AOC
What a shitty article. It says teh Democratic Socialists of NY are undef fire…than later syas they didn’t plan it and condemned it…
There is nothing inherently anti-Semitic about criticizing Israel, but there are a whole lot of anti-semites who use criticizing Israel as a cover for their hatred of Jews.
Pro-Palestinian is not necessarily pro-Hamas, just like anti-Israel is not necessarily anti-semitic.
This is the danger of the convolution of politics and religion.
Almost by definition, your faith doesn’t allow you to question your religious guidance whereas healthy governance REQUIRES you to call into question errant leadership.
It’s so tone deaf to start pro-Palestine, anti-Israel rhetoric right after a brutal attack by Hamas just like it’s tone deaf to start anti-Palestine, pro-Israeli rhetoric after Israel started bombing Gaza.
A well nuanced statement.
That will completely get lost in our modern polarized dysfunctional discourse.
Let’s see here. On one side we have Israel, a modern, multi ethnic parliamentary democracy that broadly respects human rights and international norms.
On the other side we have a band of radical Islamic terrorists who want to butcher, rape and enslave the citizens of Israel and any other society that rejects their medieval theocracy.
Choose your own side I guess.
This conflict was never gonna end well. It was either constant violence or genocide and it looks like we’re gonna get the latter.
The only way this conflict was gonna end positively was if Israel and Palestine became one country where both Israelis and Palestinians lived together as one people. But saying this now it comes off as one big grim dark joke.
This only only sends me the message that we shouldn’t partake in any Middle Eastern political affair at all. It was beyond stupid to get involved in the first place.
How could one show solidarity for the people of Palestine without coming off as antisemitic or pro Hamas?
