    A gas pipeline in the Baltic Sea that was shut due to an apparent leak, was likely “caused by external activity,” Finland’s president said in a statement Tuesday.
    The Baltic Connector pipeline, which supplies Finland with gas from Estonia, and also carries telecoms links, was closed on Sunday after a leak was discovered.
    “It is likely that the damage caused to the gas pipeline and the telecommunications cable is the result of external activity”, said President Sauli Niinistö, stressing that the cause of the leak was not yet clear and that investigations were continuing between authorities in Helsinki and Tallinn.

    Finnish media on Tuesday reported sources as saying the government and the Finnish Defense Forces suspect Russia attacked the Balticconnector gas pipeline, between Finland and Estonia, which is currently leaking.
    Finnish national broadcaster Yle said a government press conference will be held at 5:30 p.m. this evening. The Estonian Ministry of Defense said it will hold a press conference at 6:30 p.m., with Minister of Defense Hanno Pevkur and Minister of Foreign Affairs Margus Tsahkna set to attend.
    According to a Finnish government press release, the authorities have located the damaged point in the Balticconnector natural gas pipeline.
    In addition, there is damage to a communication cable between the countries.

  6. If it was a planned attack on nato energy system, nato could chose to do a tit for tat.. ( Uk term for eye for an eye).

    Pretty sure UK would stick its hand up at nato meeting calling for volunteers to hit a Russian pipeline..as would Finland!
