Estonia cares more about it’s money than the lives of Ukrainians? Wow!
Yeah, luckily. Not all are willing to lose funds for Ukraine.
Honest respect for Estonia here.
However, Estonia is tiny, their funds won’t ever be able to compensate for what Ukraine would get. It would also cut into what others recieve so Poland and Hungary will throw a tantrum.
Nevertheless, the symbolism here may trigger similiar gestures.
Just like she’s ready for Estonian businesses to pull out of Russia (as long as she can benefit from her husband’s business making money in Russia.)
Cheap populism. She will not lose funding because it’s clear that Ukraine will not join the EU before 2030 (at least), but she gains some points from pro-Ukrainian voters.
What about contributing countries (esp. Germany) paying more and keep the funding of both receiving countries and Ukraine?
Yes and no, Estonia should be already divided into two regions with the Northern being the donor and Southern the receiver. It just doesn’t make sense to pay for the already rich part of Estonia. And it doesn’t sound fair to lose those funds for the poorer part of Estonia.
