AOC Hits Democratic Socialists of America Over Controversial Rally: ‘Should Not Be Hard To Shut Down Hatred and Antisemitism’

  1. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez slammed the New York City chapter of the Democratic Socialists of America for promoting a Pro-Palestinian rally in Times Square on Sunday where protestors shouted anti-semitic epithets amid the Israel-Hamas conflict.

    “It should not be hard to shut down hatred and antisemitism where we see it. That is a core tenet of solidarity,” Ocasio-Cortez told Politico Playbook on Monday.

    One protestor was seen donning an image of a swastika on their phone and others were spotted stomping on and burning an Israeli flag in New York City.

    Ocasio-Cortez continued: “The bigotry and callousness expressed in Times Square on Sunday were unacceptable and harmful in this devastating moment. It also did not speak for the thousands of New Yorkers who are capable of rejecting both Hamas’ horrifying attacks against innocent civilians as well as the grave injustices and violence Palestinians face under occupation.”

    Two things can be awful at the same time: Hamas actions and Israel’s apartheid and ethnic cleaning of Palestinians.

    But someone Hamas actions justify Israeli apartheid and brutality towards Palestinians, but not the other way around.

    Plenty of Palestinians are kidnapped, killed, bombed, raided, and otherwise brutalized by Israel on daily basis. This is all well documented. It’s not ok when Hamas does it to Israelis and it’s not ok when Israel does it to Palestinians. This should not be hard to acknowledge.

    Why is it just taken as a given that this guy was part of the protest and not some troll? He chose a form of display that organizers wouldn’t be able to spot check.

    He is holding the phone at arm’s length past a barricade. It is completely out of the line-of-sight of everyone in the designated protest area. No one appears to see it.

    I’m very critical of Israel, and think it’s a completely legitimate argument to say it’s people are suffering because like ours their government doesn’t represent them and instead foments militant terrorism in the form of Hamas through its oppression of Palestinians.

    There is absolutely zero reason the people making the humanitarian argument should tolerate a single antisemite or Nazi in the movement. These people should be vocally, swiftly, and uncritically made to leave any space they make their vile opinions known in.

  21. Conservative here, if I am allowed to speak, I 100% agree with AOC here. She’s absolutely right. Hamas is a genocidal terrorist organization, and anyone defending them is a racist. Including AIC’s friend and fellow Democrat representative Illan Omar.

    I hope that AOC will continue to grow in wisdom and call out evil wherever it is found, especially in her own party.
