  1. Units are measured by (volume/ABV)*1000. So a litre of 40% vodka is 40 units, and a 700ml is 28, and your average pint is 1.98.

Then simply divide the units by the sale price to get the units per pound sterling.

    ((volume*abv)/1000)/price)

Taurus Cider 2L from Aldi stands supreme so far, at 5.03 units per pound. For comparison, a generously priced pub pint (£4) is 0.62 – 8 times less.

  2. Alcoholic here. Simple equation I used 31 years ago when I still drank. US units here. Proof (P) x Volume/ ounces (V) / cost(C). The higher the number the better the value

    P x V / C = Value

    90(P) x 32oz (V) / $25(C) = 115.2
    80(P) x 32oz (V) / $25(C) = 102.4

For something like whiskey it is easy. Using this to compare cheap wine to a pint of vodka will help you get fucked up on a budget.

I was such a degenerate that I often shoplifted my booze or shortchanged bartenders rendering my equation useless

  3. This is great. I’d love to see this plotted on a scatter chart showing units/GBP on one axis and volume/GBP on the other, to help me make more informed bladderation decisions.

  4. King Goblin Ale is 6.6% and 2 quid for 500ml at Sainsburys.

    Tastes fuckin good too.

Similarly priced is Old Crafty Hen at 6.5%
