  1. The lectern has the distinction of being expensive **and** tacky. It also seems unlikely that after centuries of Arkansas politicians delivering stemwinders, there is suddenly a lack of lecterns.

  2. Half of me wants to say that that’s not a lot of money but the other half is kind of amazed they’re spending that much on a lectern.

  3. Money laundering via political party/PAC.

Can a political party/PAC not donate an item to a state? Just leave the state put?

Or is it laundering no matter what and trying to hide it?

  4. A corrupt politician? Who is also a Christian and a Republican, I do declare! I am shocked!

  5. I’m gonna side with the governor here. I don’t see any way for her to govern without that lecturn. I think all her critics will be clamoring for such lecturns once they see how it gets results!

  6. The most expensive lectern I could find online was $12,000 and it looked like it was twice the quality of this one. There’s no world where $19,000 for a simple ugly lectern isn’t money laundering or at the very least drastic abuse of government funds.

  7. I love that something so incredibly stupid may bring her down.

    _Only the best people._

  8. > Sanders’ office has not said what features contributed to the lectern’s seemingly high cost. The price also included a road case, taxes, shipping and a 3% credit card processing fee.

It isn’t the features – it is the add-on, which was a trip for the person running the company to accompany Sanders to Europe when she couldn’t afford to go herself.

This really should lead to prison for Sanders – you can’t kick state money to your friends so they can travel with you and try to cover it up with an item marked up 20x the going price.

  9. The governor of Arkansas is a known MAGA fascist criminal.

  10. How in the fuck does any lectern cost that much? Does it fly or something? You can buy a fucking car for that much. They waste that much money on shit like that? How much does a lectern cost that you can find on the stage in an elementary school there?

  11. Jesus I could make that 200x nicer and for so so much less.

  12. They paid $19K for that ugly-ass piece of shit? It better have the controls for the Starship Enterprise on it for that price.

  13. Can’t you get a really nice one for a few hundred bucks ffs

  14. In West Virginia in 2018 an investigation ensued after it was found out a judge on the Supreme Court of Appeals bought a $32,000 couch for his office—with state funds. Improper and overspending as well as other improprieties were found rampant. Four of the five justices were impeached and the fifth resigned before being impeached.

Afterwards, one retired, two continued serving on the court, one lost his law license and was given fines and probation, and the last got 2 years in prison. It was a wild story.

  15. Can’t someone simply look this thing up to see what it actually cost?

  16. If you spend that much scratch on a lectern, you’re definitely an asshole.

  17. High price point comes from the artisanal crafted burl wood veneer Vaginal opening with angel wings motif, inspired by the works of celebrated local artist Arkansas O’queeffe.
