  1. Summary:

Just Stop Oil protesters sprayed the University of Oxford’s Radcliffe Camera building with orange paint on Tuesday 10 October.

Footage shows two students armed with buckets of paint and spray cans targeting the iconic Oxford landmark, which is also a working library.

A statement from Just Stop Oil claimed the action was taken “in resistance against the UK government’s plans to licence new oil and gas projects”.

The students were named as Daniel Knorr, 21, a biochemistry student and Noah Crane, 18, a recent A-Level graduate.

Buildings at the University of Exeter were also targeted.

  2. How to make people hate you AND your cause in one easy step

  3. They should be detained indefinitely under the mental health act.
Photographer and videographer should be arrested for being complicit.

Someone should return the favour to their gas / electric using property. I bet their parents would love it.

  4. Oh look some more people saw the chance to be little shits and label it a protest

  5. They threw some paint on a building. They didn’t even stop people using the library. Nobody was hurt, it was barely even an inconvenience, other than a very rich university having to pay to clean it up (assuming they don’t just force the students to do it themselves). If this is still an unacceptable level of protest I’d really like to know what IS acceptable.

  6. Nice, they spread an awareness and start people talking about… extremism and the ways it should be addressed.

  7. Stuff like this feels dumb, especially when theres plenty of fossil fuel infrastructure thats fairly easy to forcibly shut down.

  8. Can we cover their homes in paint at the government’s plans?

  9. Good job paint can be easily removed without using any fossil fuels /s

Honestly someone should add up the total repair/disruption costs of these stunts and send them a bill. At the moment we’re all subsidising this behaviour one way or another.

  10. Huh, I wonder if they’re taking a page out of the ‘bladerunners’ book with the whole destroying cameras thing.

  11. Is it actually “paint” though? They appear to be using CO2 fire extinguishers so it’s probably just turmeric added to the water.

Quite sympathetic to JSO but if it is actually paint and isn’t going to come off in the rain then that’s just stupid!

  12. I don’t understand how these idiots expect this to work. The standard response from their defenders is always “at least their getting people to talk about the problem” but they aren’t! No one is looking at this and talking about climate change, their talking about how disgraceful JSOs acts of vandalism are.

It also ignores the fact that climate change is already one of the most talked about topics of the day. The government has been tying itself in knots over climate policies for years now and it’s impossible to pick up a newspaper with finding some reference to climate change in there. We’ve been talking about it for years with no impact so what do they think would be achieved even if they were “getting people talking about climate change”.
