Erdoğan seems to condemn violence against civilians on both sides. Turkeybros, where does Erdoğan stand on the Israel-Palestine issue in general?
Translation:
President Erdoğan: “Israel should remember that if it acts similarly to (Hamas), an organization rather than a state, it will eventually start to be treated similarly.”
President and AK Party Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, regarding the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, said, “Israel should remember that if it acts similarly to (Hamas), an organization rather than a state, it will eventually start to be treated similarly.”
In his speech at his party’s Grand National Assembly Group Meeting, Erdoğan stated that Turkey is located in the most fragile region of the world in terms of ethnic origin, belief, and sectarian differences, as well as conflicts of political and social interest.
Pointing out that Ibn Khaldun’s statement “Geography is destiny” is the simplest and most striking expression of this picture, Erdoğan said, “Since we cannot change our history and geography and the destiny they impose on us, and we do not have such an intention, we should choose the best, most accurate and safest option that the current conditions allow.” “It is imperative that we follow this path. We evaluate all the events around us, from the Russia-Ukraine war to the conflicts in the Caucasus, from the tensions in the Balkans to the conflicts in the Mediterranean, with this understanding,” he said.
Stating that they have been following the developments in the Palestinian and Israeli territories in recent days, which tend to spread to the Golan Heights, Erdoğan emphasized that their stance is clear both in the fight against terrorism and in all wars and conflicts in the region.
Stating that they do not find any action against civilians or any attack targeting civilian settlements right, Erdoğan stated that they believe that war has a morality and that the parties should abide by it. Underlining that this principle was violated very seriously in the conflicts in Israel and Gaza, Erdoğan continued as follows:
“We openly oppose the killing of civilians in Israeli territory. Likewise, we never accept the indiscriminate massacre of innocents in Gaza by being subjected to constant bombardment. By cutting off a city’s water, electricity, entrances and exits, collapsing its infrastructure, destroying all its places of worship and schools, from mosques to churches, a conflict carried out by all kinds of shameful methods, such as preventing people from accessing their most basic human needs, destroying the buildings in which civilians live with bombs, is not a war but a massacre. It may push Israel into an unexpected and undesirable position. Bombing civilian settlements, deliberately killing civilians, blocking vehicles bringing humanitarian aid to the region, and trying to present all of these as skills may be a reflex of an organization, not a state. Israel should remember that if it acts similarly to an organization rather than a state, it will eventually start to be treated similarly.”
President Erdoğan pointed out that a policy carried out by bending words, concepts, and facts, recklessly attacking people’s innate fundamental rights and freedoms, and violating their promises cannot be expected to produce beneficial results.
“We have openly conveyed these truths to the whole world from the United Nations podium.”
“Neither the region nor the world can tolerate the continuation of conflicts and human tragedies in the region,” Erdoğan said.
“The issue is not just the problem of the oppressed and victimized people there. At this point, the issue is the dignity issue of the entire world, the global governance and security order, and all institutions with responsibility and authority on this issue. One of the reasons why the Palestinian issue is doomed to remain unresolved is the people who do not fulfill any of their promises.” “It is the international community. The United Nations and other organizations left the Palestinian people alone, did not honor their covenant, and failed to protect the rights and laws of the Palestinians. We are not saying this new, we have openly stated these truths to the whole world from the United Nations podium before.”
In his speech at the United Nations General Assembly in 2019, after being shown the map containing the change in the lands of Palestine and Israel since 1947, Erdogan said, “This is the picture. As you can see, Palestine in 1947, Israel and Palestine in 1947. We come to 1949-1967.” “What is Israel? We are coming to the current situation. What is Israel and what is Palestine? Humanity, which has turned a blind eye to injustice in the region until now, has not been tested well in the recent events,” he said.
Stating that they regret the provocative attitude of influential actors in the region, which is fueling the fire instead of establishing tranquility, Erdoğan said, “We call on the states in America, Europe, and other regions to take attitudes based on equitable, fair, and humane balances between the parties.”Emphasizing that everyone should stay away from impulsive decisions that aim to punish the Palestinian people altogether, such as cutting off humanitarian aid, Erdoğan said, “Due to the methods they use and their results, blindly taking sides between parties that need both criticism and support will only deepen the crisis. For this reason, we, as Turkey, invite the parties to exercise moderation. We want the war in the region to stop as soon as possible and the problems between the parties to be resolved through negotiations,” he said.Explaining that they have made many phone calls in this regard since Monday, Erdoğan gave the following information:
“We had 8 telephone conversations at the level of heads of state and government, including the heads of state of Palestine and Israel. We advised Mr. Abbas and Mr. Herzog to act peacefully and with common sense. Last night, Russian President Mr. Putin and United Nations Secretary-General Mr. Guterres spoke to each other. We also evaluated this issue. We expressed that we are ready to provide the necessary support to prevent the deepening and spreading of conflicts. As Turkey, we are ready to do whatever we can, including mediation and fair arbitration, to quickly get our region out of this whirlpool. We hope to maintain this attitude until the end. We will.”
Stating that they will use the close dialogue they have recently established with all the countries in the region to establish peace, Erdoğan said, “We want no more children, civilians, innocent people to die or more blood to be shed, neither in Gaza, nor in Israel, nor in Syria, nor in Ukraine. This is the end.” “With the events, we have seen once again how appropriate our statement, ‘The world is bigger than five,’ is. Hopefully, from now on, we will voice this objection more loudly,” he made his assessment.
“We will not accept any step that does not respect the status of Haram al-Sharif.”
Underlining that permanent tranquility and peace can only come to the region with the establishment of an independent Palestinian state, whose legitimacy is based on the United Nations resolutions, with 1967 borders and geographical integrity, with East Jerusalem as its capital, and recognized by the whole world, Erdoğan said that looking for a way other than this, pursuing other ambitions is just a matter of time. He said it would mean more destruction, more tears and loss of life.
President Erdoğan said, “We have not accepted and will not accept any steps or measures that do not respect the privacy of Jerusalem, which contains the holy places of three heavenly religions, and the status of Haram al-Sharif, where the Masjid al-Aqsa is located,” he said.
Noting that Israel can only survive as a state and guarantee the security of its citizens in this way, Erdoğan said, “Otherwise, the events that have occurred since last Saturday will not be the last, and it will be inevitable that much greater tragedies will follow. Neither we nor Israel “We never want Palestine or our region to be dragged into such a vicious circle,” he said.
May God grant permanent tranquility, peace and well-being to our country, our region and the world.” Erdoğan wished success to the MPs in their work in the new legislative year.
Notes
Upon his arrival at the group meeting, President Erdoğan took a photo with children who were relatives of martyrs and veterans born on 11 October, who visited the Turkish Grand National Assembly on the occasion of 11 October International Girls’ Day.
After President Erdoğan completed his speech, the AK Party TBMM Group Meeting continued closed to the press.
He is right. Israel should learn from Serbian mistakes. In 90s the response on repressions and genocide of Christian Serbs was brutal and ended up with terrible events in Srebrenica where thousands of innocent teenage boys and men lost their lives. It didn’t bring anything good to Serbia but just fueled ethnic tension which is still a little bit active even today.
Does this apply to your treatment of the Kurds too? No? Then fuck off asshole.
He is right here .
Erdogan can apply his own words with the Kurds.
Says the man the butchers innocent kurds.
Israel should learn from the US mistakes after 9/11. We went too far, mostly with Iraq, and it lost us a lot of credibility in the world that we will never get back.
Hypocrite, I wonder how he would’ve reacted if it were the Kurds. Luckily they would never done that cos the Kurds are not animals like the hammas #freekurdistan
Haven’t seen Israeli soldiers in full battle gear shooting women and children so I would say they’re pretty safe
Kurdistan anyone?
Rare erdo W
Israel Ukraine Armenia and India should just start their own little world power. Because why not. At least Med Dev would be mad again.
Waiting for the re-evaluation of Turkey’s stance on fighting the PKK/Kurds. Trust me, bro. Any day now…
