Excuse the preview quality, I often see cars taking a left turn here during a red light. Is this permitted? My partner says I should be able to since we are not going through any red lights but turning before passing them but I have my doubts. I also don’t want to hold up the traffic behind me.

  1. No, you’re driving in front of the traffic flow if you do.

  2. No, the stop line, that goes with the traffic lights, is before the crossing. You have to wait for the green light and give way to cars coming towards you before you turn.

Edit: trying to fix my english

  3. You wait for the green light, then wait for oncoming cars to pass you. And then you turn left.

  4. Wait for green light, cross stop line and wait for moment when you can safely complete maneuver. Although at this intersection it’s almost impossible to do it completely safe.

  5. If you see cars taking a left turn with a red light here, it’s one of the two: 1) they’ve driven out into the intersection to wait for the flow from the opposite direction to stop. In that case, you are allowed to finish the manoeuvre even if the light has turned red in the mean time, 2) they’re just breaking the law and thinking “fuck it”.

  6. If the Stop line was dashed you’d be able to turn. But in that case you should wait gor green light.

  7. I think you can because the crosswalk in front seems to be regulated and nothing else. Or are there traffic lights also on your side and we can’t just see them?

It’s a shitty design for sure.

  9. if you go straight you wait for the light behind the line, if you turn left you can cross the line and turn when there is no opposite traffic (or the light is red for them).
