New Jack Smith filing suggests DOJ identified Trump’s “motive” in classified docs case: analysis

  1. > “That the classified materials at issue in this case were taken from the White House and retained at Mar-a-Lago is not in dispute,” the filing said, adding that “what is in dispute is how that occurred, why it occurred, what Trump knew, and what Trump intended in retaining them — all issues that the Government will prove at trial primarily with unclassified evidence.”

Doesn’t seem like there are any meaningful unknowns as this point.

  2. His motive was to brag to Jet Ski dealership owners in Palm Beach

  3. The key thing here is that Jack Smith knows how Trump games the justice system and is putting stop gap measures in place to prevent Trump from employing those antics at trial.

  4. Considering Smith brought on a(nother)* war crimes prosecutor I’m seriously starting to think he has evidence of a quid pro quo with some foreign national(s).

  5. Mr.Smith is playing 3D chess while tRUmp is still trying to unpack his connect 4 game. I truly hope this man receives the full punishment he deserves…a traitor, con & thief of this magnitude deserves a SuperMax cell.

  6. The wording definitely made me think of Jack Smith as some kinda legal Nino Brown.

  7. >New Jack

They missed the boat on the one guy who could have solved all of these problems in under a minute.

  8. The example in the article is only a guess.

What would be political though, is keeping the true motives behind the theft, hidden from voters. The voters have a rights to see this case in plain view BEFORE we vote, not after

  9. Everybody’s thinking it’s going to be something like espionage, hoping to sell secrets to foreign powers, but I think it’s going to be something ridiculous, like he was planning on opening a chain of restaurants called “Trump’s”, and wanted to put framed presidential mementos on the wall, and use the “top secret” folders to hold the “secret formula” for his Trump-brand steak barbecue sauce.*

[* Ketchup. That’s all it is.]

  10. 45 already knows the contents of the documents. Or would have in his capacity as President. There are only two reasons I can think of why someone would want to keep documents they already know the contents of but are not allowed to share:

1.) Personal gain. The documents have value. 45 intends to leaverage that value in some way. Could be something as stupid as including them in a book or as evil as selling access to them to foreign nationals.

2.) Narcissism/Ego. He wants to keep momentos. But importantly, he wants to brag about having them. As previously released audio recording suggests, this includes physically showing them to people he’s trying to impress as well as just disclosing their contents.

I can’t for the life of me think of a single other reason why anyone would keep classified documents that doesn’t invlove their distribution. It’s not reasonable to think he’s just going to keep these sensitive documents in a safe and never do anything with them, and we already know he he didn’t even keep them that secure. There are photos.

It’s not even like he just was on his way out and grabbing random stuff of value. If that was the case, he wouldn’t have been fighting so hard to keep them. He could have returned them, quietly, and there would have been no legal repercussions. The only logical reason someone would go through all the effort of fighting their return is that there is some plan for their use.

So far all the evidence Jack Smith has included in the indictments has been concrete. Documents, call logs, photos, video footage, first hand testimony of people involved. If he’s suggesting in his latest statements that the DOJ has evidence of motive I would expect he has the receipts.

My biggest question in all of this is what is the red line for the GOP? Is there even one? That’s the scary part.

  11. It’s cash. He took the documents to sell them.

  12. He instructed his lawyers to lie and say a search was performed even though it wasn’t, he clearly knew what he had and wanted to break the law to retain it, and that’s incredibly clear in the unclassified indictment. He should be in jail already for this, it’s fucking ridiculous, a DOD employee that did this would be in prison right away.

  13. In s couple of years, if the nation survives MAGA, Jack will be lionized for saving the Republic.

  14. Hmm, in 2018 MBS said it would be “really crazy” for him to try and win influence in the trump administration by sharing information with Kushner. Kushner denied he was in MBS pocket, and denied any promises of money or work in the future from any foreign government.

    But if we back up…

In 2017, a blockade was enforced against Qatar, and it was created by S.A., U.A.E., and another nation which escapes me. (Egypt, I think.)

    So?

In 2018, Toronto based Brookfield Investing dumps 1.2 billion into Kushner Properties, getting Kushner enough money to pay off the loan and buy out his partners for the building 666 5th Ave.
Brookfield is backed to the tune of billions, with the second largest funding agent being Qatar.
So, for help with the blockade, Qatar paid off Kushner’s building.

A peace accord is drafted, and the Qatari blockade is lifted in 2020.
Saudi Arabia does NOT join the Abraham Accord, but plays nice from a state department perspective.

    Quid… pro… quo?

Kushner’s private equity firm Affinity Partners takes in 2 Billion from S.P.I.F. in 2021, roughly 6 months after trump leaves office, at the direct demand of MBS, and against the wishes of the S.P.I.F. governors.
The same month MBS pays into Steve Mnuchin’s private equity firm 1 Billion, but at much less favorable rates than with Affinity Partners.

2021, U.A.E. also deposits 100+ million into Affinity Partners.
Qatar, in fear of getting the short end of the stick, also matches U.A.E. investments in Affinity Partners.

Was the Abraham Accord just a big buy-in scheme created at the behest of Saudi Arabia?
    Could be.
Lotta trump money is flowing from Saudi coffers right now….

  15. I would guess that Trump was probably trying to sell them to the highest bidder. According to reports one of his aides was scanning them to a laptop. Allowing him a easy way to transport them or transmit them over the internet. With the shear volume of documents I doubt that he has read very much of the information. He seldom read any of the intelligence briefs and preferred short video presentations. He has a hard time reading prepared speeches and often diverts to a rambling jumble of unrelated thoughts. He more than likely read the titles and tossed them in a box for use later. Most Governments would be happy to pay a couple billion to know our invasion plans for their country. Or how many Submarines we have and what they are armed with. It is not past Trump to trade important documents for the ability to build a resort or hotel in their country. Or obtain financing to build one.
