  1. * No we won’t tell you how much we’re paying people
    * No we won’t fire anyone
    * Yes we’ll still have you thrown in prison if you don’t pay up

  2. Haven’t heard anything about cost cutting from them apart from a recruitment freeze that has supposedly saved millions.

  3. As someone who has never bought a TV licence in their life, this warms me up.

My honest reaction when RTE go bankrupt

  5. Surely Havana came in with an advertising contract with all the business RTE done with them ?

  6. Fine, bail them out as we obviously need a public broadcaster – but under strict conditions they trim the fat, reduce payscales and scrutinise expenditure across the board. Get rid of pointless shows and channels – why RTÉ have so many Radio stations / Shows with shocking JNLR figures is beyond me.

  7. They could sell that prime bit of real-estate and move outside of the city to get them more time to sort themselves out. But they need to make very hard decisions about pay reductions, redundancies etc.

They allowed themselves to get bloated. For as long as I remember every year they’d ask for more money and argue the TV licence should go up. Even when they get what they want they’re back in 2 years asking for the same. I used to hear about the blatant waste in Rte not just on bloated salaries but expenses. One case I heard of was a guy that got taxis to and from work everyday because Rte would cover it. When it’s tax payers money it’s easy to spend. Why is Newstalk able to function. Why is virgin media able to function. Why is 80% of RTEs shows sending a retired member of a boyband on a holiday with a camera crew? Why is TG4s production value often better than RTEs?

Basically it sucks but you have to take your medicine Rte. The state needs Rte for it’s news and current affairs shows but not necessarily everything else. We won’t let you die but we won’t let you live in your current form either.

  8. Why not just make public service broadcasted funded by our taxes?

  9. Here’s hoping they have to shut down or at very least cut all programing back to just News. Everything else can be sold off or made available for streaming .

  10. Turn it off and get rid of them. They are a waste of tax and a disgrace to the country

  11. Bathurst was being a bit of a prick at the meeting today.

  12. Fairplay AK47 for gently reminding Bakhurst who the big dawgs are

  13. First off who gives a fuck and secondly who actually watches RTE anymore?

  14. And?

RTE is not essential. I couldn’t care less if they go bust.

  15. Close them down noone gives a Bollox about Joe and whatever else they produce. Give the lotto coverage to virgin media.

  16. People are salivating about RTE dying. To be clear, that means job losses for the little guys not the big guys who earn the most money.

It’s badly run and needs a major reform but I would rather not see a load of people lose their jobs because of a nations bitterness toward tubridy.

I would like to see Marty morrissey sacked though. He clearly broke the rules set out in the company handbook and did it for years then pretended he had no idea if the car was a gift or a loan.

  17. Yeah and so will a huge chunk of the population. Figure it out like the rest of us have to, Kev.

  18. So are they expecting a government bailout then? I’d be sad to see RTE go so I expect they’ll definitely get their bailout. There’s no way they won’t.
