The less we listen to Yanis Varoufakis, the better we will all be
The situation certainly isn’t working for anyone. But ‘end apartheid’ is a bit of a meaningless platitude without specifics. I mean just open up the border ? What’s the worst that could happen.. ? Oh I guess we have an inkling.
And they all live happily ever after…, and then Yannis woke up with his billionaire wife that wanted to live with Common People like Jarvis Cocker.
So do we end apartheid by letting Hamas genocide the Israelis (aka JEWS\*), or the other way round? /s
\*But judging from the weekend, with a liberal sprinkling of Arab-Israelis and people from random countries, not all ‘Western colonialists’ (and pet dogs).
Define “apartheid” and what would constitute “ending apartheid”.
Have whatever opinion you want, but people saying “end apartheid” do NOT mean just ending the occupation of the West Bank and Gaza.
Judging by the way he interpreted geopolitics as a Minister, when he was sure that he could divert Eurozone with his tricks , I wouldn’t even spend time to listen any of his “lectures”..
People love throwing words around.
There is no apartheid. The Gaza strip is not even part of Israel so how would they have the rights of an Israeli citizen lol.
Last I checked there are Palestinians in israeli government, there even is an Arab party.
Is there full equality? No. Obviously not and change is necessary. But Muslim Israeli citizens are generally only discriminated against in relatively reasonable ways – to ensure they don’t become a majority anywhere since Israel is a religious ethnostate. Which was kind of the whole point of its founding… Jews are harassed and massacred around the entire world for 2900 years so we give them a state that’s theirs alone.
I would not want to live next to Hamas members or supporters. Fuck that.
This clown can do, if he wants to.
Our time on earth is limited and nobody in their right mind would take on that risk. Why would anybody want to think about savages storming your houses and villages as a real possibility?
So yes, roll in not only aphartheid, but a big wall with gun turrets. Keep the barbarians out.
As a Greek, I’d like for people to note that Mr. Varoufakis’ best description of political career is as member of DiEM25 ([Wikipedia link](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Democracy_in_Europe_Movement_2025)) and not as “ex-Greek minister”. In fact, he was pushed aside by his own party’s government and made to resign during the crisis because people in the government and in Europe disagreed with him.
Paint a picture of him basis his DiEM25 identity.
The whole apartheid comparison is ridiculous. SA had an overwhelming majority of black people with a small white majority. They lived in a neofeudal style rapport.
Between the Jordan river and the sea, there is a slight Jewish majority, but essentially it’s half half. There are two legal regimes in the West Bank as required by the Geneva convention and the Oslo accords. It most definitely could be improved but it certainly isn’t apartheid. Anyone who argues it’s apartheid is either unaware of what apartheid means, or trying to give support to the murder of Jews by Arab terrorists.
*“We have participated in this crime against humanity over the decades by keeping our mouths shut… As long as people are dying outside the reach of cameras, as long as it’s Palestinians who die and not the occupiers.”*
Europe, he continued, must use the events unfolding now to “wake up and redeem ourselves” and work towards peace through “the destruction of the state of apartheid.”
Well, he’s right.
Just don’t have security
Varoufakis seems to be an extremely marginalized politician. One day he seems sane and sounds logical, the other he babbles god know what and reminds me of a looney character. Not sure he can be trusted.
This is a point that many people ignore. It’s cynical to ask for peace when Israel is ramping up settlements and treating Palestinians as inferior beings.
Israeli settlers do as they please under the protection if the Israeli government.
So tired of this whole the world was silent about the gaza situation before 7 okt. It wasn’t Israel was heavily watched and always got international scrutiny anytime anything happened. There has been billions in foreign aid sent to Palestina.
But you know who barely got any media attention? The organisation that fired rockets at civilians every day for almost 20 years. Can you imagine if Israel indiscriminately started firing rockets with the goal of killing civilians it would be on every news outlet. The reality is that both sides in this conflict have commited crimes against humanity, but one side gets more scrutiny than the other. This is the reason why when what was clearly a terrorist attack on a 9/11 scale people came out and supported that attack.
Lets be real here if your logic is they did this to us so we did that to them therefor its fair. Then what is happening in gaza if fair due to what they did to them. But in reality non of it is okay and everyone is in the wrong. Can we please get back to realism here?
I think the lesson from the past fifteen or so years has been that your best bet is to do the opposite of whatever Varoufakis says.
After failing in his quest to ruin Greece, he seeks new targets
Another soundbite with no practical meaning
Its yanis! A bullshiter of epic proportions.
Failed Western politicians throwing around big words and the media is eating it up because they love controversy.
If you want to see apartheid, go to any of these Arab majority countries and try being of a different religion or race than the ruling power. Or a woman. Or gay.
But they don’t care about that.
# Ex-Greek minister
# but still a current psychopath
How can it be an apartheid when Israel has requested a two state solution which Palestine has declined? That makes no sense.
Gasps in NeoLiberal.
“we must give the terrorist what they want!”
Coming from the guy who wanted to burn it all down.
