They’ve had a guy in charge for the NHS for years before he came chancellor who wrote a book on how to privatise the NHS make it unusable then say the only way to fix it is to become like the US!
They pushed hundreds of managers into hospital these people have no medical degrees and are paid hundreds of thousands! They purposefully do this! Want better public services? vote for a party who will fund them! Not try to profit off our public services! Ffs they agreed contracts with foreign governments to compensate them when our citizens strike as they run out rails! Imagine that! Protecting companies ‘foreign owned companies’ profit margins over your own citizens rights! Party of the people? Yeah the Tory donors who have realised you’re out of power at the next election and have already switched to labour! Just have to make sure labour don’t go corrupt when at the wheel which is likely! Starmer doesn’t invoke confidence in me!

The important thing is not to make any changes to the failing public services, because improving them would be socialism, and the public hates that.
Maybe some older redditors can comment but it does feel like the current period is edging into 1970s territory in terms of just how *broken* everything seems right now. Maybe not as visible as we’re not having rolling blackouts or a strike from the binmen, but like the article says its like the moment you try to engage with a public service, even stuff as serious as the courts system, you can’t escape feeling like the entire thing is just clinging on by its nails.
No fucking shit in the week – and granted it is not a Statutory Obligation – that Xmas (as in Lights) were cancelled across Medway; and other boroughs (can’t remember who) cancelled (and its another non Statutory Obligation) Bonfire Night. As I said somewhere else yesterday. It’s not Financial Mismanagement anymore, it’s now random “you’re fucked” moments and Section 144 notices being issued. It also doesn’t stop people issuing inane queries to Councils and literally burning their own money in terms of Officer time spent (yes I know its in their rights to do so, but try reading the website and if the answer is no, guess what – the answer is still no even if you copy your MP and Councillors in). The self help option e.g. reporting fly tipping, refuse, potholes whatever options still get to the same Officers. Just because you emailed an Officer, copying in 2 MPs, 17 Councillors and a Director in doesn’t put yours at the top of the pile but the response needs handling and wastes Officer time actually trying to help you. Yes I know this doesn’t apply in all cases but this does cover a disproportionate amount of cases in my experience from the entitled e.g. I pay my taxes, yes we know. So do others and that doesn’t cover the sides of that cost.
Cheery thought – costs often lag. 2024 isn’t going to be any better. We haven’t reached the bottom yet. Enjoy your Thursday 👍

And yet taxes are so damn high… I don’t mind paying those taxes if the services were actually good or improving, but it just feels like I’m paying more taxes year on year and everything is getting worse. The only tangible result I’ve actually seen from my paying taxes is the government paying for hotels for illegal immigrants.
The British voted for it for 13 years. This is what you get. Stop complaining. It’s not like the last 13 years of tory government didn’t decimate the country
