They missed a trick here. They needed to interview his wife, who would have been all “Oh, he was a bloody nightmare when he retired. But the curvy sticks have been a Godsend. Sometimes he’ll be gone for hours at a time and I can watch the telly in peace.”
That was the difference Esther Rantzen made to British TV. She would have known to do that.
