Until very recently, if you even had a *slight* disagreement with the covid restrictions you were called a tinfoil hatter, conspiracy theorist, granny killer, or a combination of all three.
This nuanced view is sorely needed at this time. Covid is a problem, yes. But as a world we have become so obsessed with it we have stopped caring about anything else that matters.
There’s a lack of accountability across the board for government officials.
Wasn’t long ago that anyone who raised concerns about the lack of democratic accountability inherent in having a Taoiseach effectively sidelining the Oireachtas and instead ruling by decree was denounced as a fascist murderer.
Positive direction of travel that such a well-respected and senior member of our primary democratic forum is now able to voice her concerns without the torrent of abuse she would have got last year.
We could do much worse than the Leas-Cheann Comhairle when Michael D retires in three years time.
Well done to Christina Finn for writing that article.
She makes very valid points and it’s notable that this is coming from her and not the opposition parties.
I’m finding it entertaining watching the anti-lockdown fanatics glom onto this as if it validates the bile they have been spewing throughout this pandemic.
I hope she has success – oversight on spending and some of the decisions made with schools, nursing homes, construction is sorely needed.
Unfortunately I keep remembering the Dáil speech she made last month where she fixated on the omicron/moronic anagram as if it meant something. That kind of association denigrates any argument and reminds me of the leaps that conspiracy theorists make.
However, it was also amazing to see her reprimand Donnelly for speaking out of turn. I’m torn.
When I look and listen to FFG Political figures I think to myself,” aren’t they thick as Christmas dinner shite !!! “
Then glance across at this lady and listen to her speak and say, “Wow !”
