Who says that being smart makes you the right person for the job? There are plenty of smart evil people in the world. Intelligence isn’t virtue, its a trait.
No, the biggest mouths and dimmest bulbs have been sent.
Well we are a representative democracy I guess…
“Those who are too smart to engage in politics are punished by being governed by those who are dumber.”
-Plato, maybe
‘Some, I’m sure, are decent people.’
To be blunt, I’d settle for honesty and productivity. Our political system doesn’t reward these virtues, though. It’s a popularity contest, and that typically goes to the person saying what most people want to hear. Regardless of truth, or if the speaker even believes it.
And our press reinforces this. I couldn’t have told you who Tommy Tuberville is a few months ago, but the press has made him famous for refusing to do his job. He should be removed, not rewarded with headlines.
George Santos is only just now possibly going to get his comeuppance. Trump is still a question mark.
Sadly that is a reflection of where we at as a country. A combination of social media elevating bigots, public education lagging behind other countries, fox news poisoning the well of information, money in politics preventing real material change from being accomplished and the elites intentionally spreading messages encouraging voter apathy and helplessness.
That’s because in order to be a congressman you need to throw away your morals and start licking the boot of lobbyists and donors. Plus you have to constantly lie. And you only get paid through sketchy money laundering. Then you have half the country who would be happy if you dropped dead. On top of that no sense of accomplishment since congress never gets shit done. And having to interact daily with people who are trying to undermine your work and sabotage you. Who in their right mind would want that job?
At some point you have to ask if a constitutional republic is the best form of democracy in the modern age
We know big fella; you’re exhibit A. Goodness, does he not realize the irony of *him* saying that? Can’t even put a suit on.
There are opportunists who figure out an elected office is a well paying, prestigious job with absolutely no intent of being a public servant. The same people generally have limited or no options in the private sector to make the same income. A simple con to get elected, empty promises that appeal to the fringes who vote and they have guarantees employment.
No shit, Mr Example Number 1!
Why would we be? The “best and brightest” among us can get more money for far less frustration in the private sector. I’ve talked about going into politics with my wife, and we both agree it’s kind of a choice between being in politics…or being happy.
And Odin, Zeus, Set, Pazuzu, Io, Illuvatar, whomever help you if you’re an introvert.
Yeah, but have you heard that Fetterman wears a hOoDiE? How can you possibly govern in that?

The chaos caucus is made up of lowlifes that peaked in middle school.
Thats an understatement.
Who are the best and brightest?
well, it’s not the greatest job in the world…
This is something I’ve considered for a long while now. Basically you just have to be charismatic. And we all know that Charisma and Intelligence are separate stats that do not necessarily affect each other.
I’m not sure he’s the one who should be making that point. The people of Pennsylvania had two poor options before them in Fetterman and Oz, it’s unfortunate.
Edit: Maybe one of these downvoters can explain why they think Fetterman is one of Pennsylvania’s best and brightest? Or maybe they’re just partisan trolls.
Self owned
No doubt he’ll be excoriated for making note of the obvious.
This is due to the weakening of the political party leadership. This is especially true on the GOP side. A political party should get to decide who can and can’t use its label and run in its primaries.
Some of them, I assume, are good people.
I was starting to believe these were the best and brightest though…there’s so many of them
Corporate vultures really lowered the bar when they started backing this batch of Republican shit stain incompetent fakers terrorists. Clearly these clowns never had any intention of governing in the first place, the grift runs deep. Conned or not, as Americans we all sadly pay the price for this tragedy.
Based Fetterman is awesome 🤩
Internet trolls armed with marketing data are making their way in. And they are finding it lucrative.
The commentary regarding his statements or memes was how do you work with people after insulting them. This was great as he was implying most of them don’t realize they’ve been insulted. “ not sending our brightest” hilarious!
It’s out of spite at this point. I blame the cancerous Trump
Big money wants dim politicians who don’t read bills.
Just pay some troll farms to spread disinformation on largely unregulated social media platforms that fail to adequately monitor content, and have algorithms that promote articles with shock value, and they get elected and will do your bidding.
I like fetterman but dude had a stroke and went into sever depression and needed to be hospitalized for like the first year he was in the senate. Still better than 100% of republicans.
The best and brightest can make way more money working on K Street, Wall Street, or Silicon Valley. So why would waste their lives working on Capital Hill?
The truly wealthy don’t want to be politicians, they select their stupidest, half broke friends and run them for office.
We never have.
Politics is all about power and money. The power to benefit people who have the money and influence to put you there and the money you get from doing their bidding.
Granted, there used to be some rare individuals who wanted to get elected to help the average American. But they have almost always been the exception, not the rule. It has been a long time since there were genuine altruists in congress.
The “best and brightest” are the ones who are best at milking the system and the brightest at getting their patrons what they want.
Well that’s because most Americans can’t afford to even run
Thanks to gerrymandering. When one party can’t lose they have no incentive to send a critical thinking person. They promote a “yes man” who just “follows orders” and is there to get paid and earn clout.
With enough of this going on, you get a few good grifters (Matt Gatez ) who take advantage of this and basically “unionize “ the “followers “ with promises of fame and fortune.
When you add both together with a general goal to obstruct government, you end up with the modern GOP and the issues they have with the “freedom caucus “ and that impact (get this) TRICKLES DOWN to the citizens. (The only time their trickle down plan worked, unexpectedly even to themselves).
Welcome to the Republican Clown show! Star attraction is a Leopard eating party members faces.
I love this guy so much. I’m not even American, but Fetterman is absolutely brilliant!
“If you’re gonna do the work, then you gotta be honest,
The best of us have all, already been forgotten.
If you’re in it for the recognition, hate to disappoint,
But if you do it right you’ll never get it.”
I think the biggest problem, especially with the Republican party is that they have turned it into a reality sporting event where a majority of them just vote for who ever the “R” is next to without considering their policys.
Nah. It’s all about pissing of the other team these day.
And the sky is blue.
That’s because the best and brightest prefer the greater profitability and comparative lack of responsibility of roles in the tech and finance sectors.
And water is wet
Pretty bold statement for someone recovering from a stroke.

The irony.
Has he looked in the mirror?
