At the risk of sounding naive, since Israel has officially declared war on Hamas. What would happen if Israel treated this like an old school war? What I mean is if Israel stated their terms and conditions and intent: Demand the full unconditional surrender of Hamas. Anything less is unacceptable. Israel will continue full offensive operations until surrender is reached. This seems logical to me. Clearly Hamas is an existential threat to Israel. The destruction of Israel is a stated goal in their charter. This latest attack leaves no doubt. Doesn’t seem like such a position would be an over reaction by Israel at this juncture. If Hamas decides to fight to the last man, would any claim of genocide be moot at that point? The Palestinian civilians are by default in the crossfire of this conflict and will continue to be until surrender is reached. The ball would be in Hamas’ court with regards to the fate of the the civilians of Gaza. What would be the downside, internationally, diplomatically, public opinion, for Israel if they took such a position?
