  1. 2 years training means you are 52 before you get qualified. Have to retire 8 years later (rumours it’s getting increased to 62 so 10 years).

How much does it cost to train these lads? Is it value for money?

I’m not 50 but I know that I wouldn’t be able to be wrestling with young lads in templebar at my age.

  2. While they say the older recuits are going to be expected to do the same work. I wonder if this is going to cause more younger gardai to retire early due to injury.

Can see 30 year old ten year vets being passed over for desk jobs to 40 year old rookies and the younger gardai being rode hard and put away wet.

  3. So someone has been watching Netflix seen The Rookie and thaugh this was a solution. Instead of increasing pay and conditions.

  4. Unless the raise the starting salary, it’s unlikely to change a thing

  5. Surely by the time someone hits 50 they’re looking for a quiet day’s work, not dealing with drunks on a Saturday night?

  6. How much do they get paid? I’m a teacher in the US, came here for uni, would love to move back home but teaching in Ireland seems like a good way to end up homeless.

Edit: did a search fucking he’ll they start at 33k and will only rise to 59k after 19 years! How the fuck do you survive on that? I’m on 72 as a teacher here. Guess I’ll just be visiting Xmas and summers as per.

  7. Jesus, I read the headline and thought you had to be minimum 50 years old to join. The only time I’ve actually had to read an article on Reddit so far this year
