Today I failed my driving test, after completing what was imo a flawless exam. During the whole exam the examiner gave a single comment about a car on the right having right-of-way. He’s convinced that I should have stopped there. However the car was about 6 metres from the crossing and had his indicator on to indicate he was parked on the road. This was clear because he was completely stopped and also having a conversation on his phone. The examiner insisted that he had right-of-way and I should have made a full stop, even if he were standing still. This is ridiculous. The car was parked partially on the sidewalk. I even slowed at that junction just to make sure and so I could brake at any time.

Just for this one “mistake”, he deducted from 3 different categories on my result. This is immensely frustrating because it takes months to possibly get a new appointment and I’m extremely busy with uni most of the time. Also this pushes the date closer to my learners license lapsing. I feel like the examiner was just out to fail me from the start and there isn’t anything I could’ve realistically done better. Does anyone have good advice on passing or is anyone experiencing the same? Are they allowed to just deduct points from 3 different categories for a single “mistake”?

  1. The first part of comments are about changing directions. Apparently you aren’t checking your mirrors etc. when changing lanes and/or turning off.

Why would this be relevant to the situation you rant about?

Seems to me you were failed rightly.

  2. It’s an exam. He follows the letter of the rule, and he is right. If you were aware of the car, and you did make the (correct) observation of it being stationary… you’re still taking an exam so it’s not about feeling but about showing you know the rules.

Unfortunate OP, and I understand the frustration, but your examiner did nothing wrong.

  3. A stopped car still retains priority.

Parked means left, if the driver was in his car with the engine on it´s not parked, it´s standing still. There´s a difference.

See the don´t stop/don´t park signs.

  4. Right of way is considered a big mistake, so thats probably why

  5. On my first driving exam I failed because a scooter suddenly crossed the road. And I mean with a 90degree turn without blinking or anything. Had to brake really hard or I had hit him. I failed because of suddenly braking and that’s dangerous for drivers behind me. The awnser I got was; if you would have hit him you would be in your rights…..
