Millions with no savings hurt by Tory ‘failure’, says Labour

  1. Proper financial responsibility really needs to be taught to the general public. So many people live beyond their means and have no rainy day fund.

  2. inb4 tone deaf comments pointing out how people should “stop eating avocados and pull themselves by their boostraps and that they only have themselves to blame” without ever stopping to think that people on low incomes are already squeezed to the max and don’t have any money to save.

  3. > More than 6.5 million people in working families had no savings when the Covid pandemic began

Don’t think this statistic is that good an indicator of how many have no savings today.

  4. >A government spokesperson said: “We recognise people are facing pressures, which is why we’re taking £4.2bn of decisive action to help.

    >“We are providing extensive support to those on the lowest incomes – including putting an average of £1,000 more per year into the pockets of working families on universal credit, increasing the minimum wage and helping with the cost of fuel bills.

    Hahaha good one.

  5. Rather than just blaming the Tories, we still need to demand better wages from companies too. There is a lot the Tories can do to help with that, however companies are free to pay their employees more without interference from the government; they only do not do so because it cuts into their profit and dividends. Laws set the bare minimum for pay and workers’ rights, companies are free to set their own minimum well above that legal minimum if they choose. Workers need to stand up and demand they do.

  6. It’s good to see Labour planning ahead for when they’re in government. If they don’t stop the tories now there’ll be nothing in the bank accounts for them to steal
