Hello all,

I parked in a paid parking space outside the Palace of Justice in Nuremberg yesterday. I paid 4 euros which would cover me for 2 hours. Upon my return, I found a parking warning under my wiper. Unfortunately, it rained while we were inside, rendering some of the ticket difficult to read. I don’t quite understand what I did I incorrectly. My park ticket was clearly displayed on my dash. Could someone please advise?

Thanks!

  1. The fine says you parked there from 10:12 until 15:04 but your ticket was only printed at 14:08 that’s strange.

  2. The fine says you overextended the parking time to 3 hours. And states as time 15:04. Your parking ticket was valid until 14:08.

  3. I wouldn‘t pay just yet.

Your parking ticket was valid until
    13.10.2023 10:11Uhr which was today.

This is probably because the time you paid was longer then the hours of the parking space being charged, automatically adding up to the next day.

However the fine was issued yesterday if I read this correct,
which means the Person who issued it misread the parking ticked as ending yesterday,
instead of today and I’m pretty sure the fine is wrong.

    I see three options now.

    1. If you don‘t pay, the rental company will get a letter demanding the fine + fees, so a little higher amount.
They will probably refer the city to you as having rented the car during this time.

I don‘t know if they will keep pursuing it then because you probably don‘t have a german address since you stated being an american tourist.
If they don’t that’s the end of it.

If they do and I am right about you being ‚innocent’, keep the ‚Parkticket‘ as proof of having paid and they should drop it once you object to it with the evidence provided,

If I‘m wrong the fees will make this more expensive if you do end up having to pay.

    2. You pay now, that is considered as agreeing and the matter is resolved (in my opinion wrongfully at your loss).

    3. You could try contacting the city via phone/mail if you don’t understand the form and have them drop it by showing the Parkticket and explaining it to them. This is what I would do, maybe they can tell you how to do this properly, would suck if they don‘t speak english but worth a try.

Look for Ordnungsamt Nürnberg maybe they have an english option for their website.

    Edit: more elaborating

  4. I wouldn‘t pay just yet.

Your parking ticket was valid until
    13.10.2023 10:11Uhr which was today.

However the fine was issued yesterday if I‘m correct, which means the Person who issued id misread the parking ticked as ending yesterday, instead of today and the fine is invalid.

  5. All such ‘paper’ tickets will come to the registered owner of the vehicle in postal form if you don’t pay (free of additional charge, iirc, as it could have been removed or rendered unreadable by weather or other circumstances) wait for that delivery and decide what to do then.

  6. Did you check if the Kennzeichen match? I would guess that someone else stuck their ticket on your car if you are truthful about the time you parked there first.
