What might this mean for Finland?

  1. Well, no U.S. troops per Russia’s request 😄

  2. I highly doubt they are coming to Finland. Most likely they are going to go to the Baltic countries.

  3. Last time I checked, that’s effectively our entire combat force. Sure, it’s much more on paper, but like with most European militaries the actual combat-capable (and – ready) element is a fraction of the total strength on paper.

Maybe most of those 20,000 are logistics elements. I’m not sure though.

  4. Past interviews have reflected on the fact that the Finnish army training grounds and their around-the-year availability is very interesting to the Brits. So it’s possible, but not sure we have the barracks for longer-term deployments, especially for professional soldiers over conscripts.

  5. The UK itself is Northern Europe too according to some definitions of the region.
