Covid inquiry: Government labelled ‘tragic joke’ in WhatsApp

  1. It is downright tragicomic how utterly and openly inept the UK government acts behind the curtain. You want to believe that they are *just* evil, that surely there’s a plan, even if it is utterly maniacal, but no… it’s literally just that the government is run by complete idiots who bicker and fight and backstab each other on a dime, and we all just have to accept that they are the people in charge.

Simon Case, then permanent secretary to Johnson and the current Cabinet Secretary:

    >”I was always told that Dom was the secret PM. How wrong they are. I look forward to telling select cttee tomorrow – “oh, fuck no, don’t worry about dom, the real person in charge is Carrie”

Lee Cain, then-aide to Boris Johnson:

    >So True.

    Good fucking god…

  2. A new day, and Johnson once again tackles stiff competition and edges ahead in the race to be our worst ever leader. Wasn’t even making the decisions in his own home, let alone in the cabinet or parliament.

And if it wasn’t for the inquiry, we’d be oblivious. What sort of shambles was he running every day and on every topic? Self-centred, self-important, under-prepared and incapable. This is another nail in the coffin of any ambition to return. I think we can see why he decided not to try to remain an MP.

Hey, Boris – take your big dressing up box and your overwhelming desire to be important and just fuck off and never come back.

  3. Is Boris Johnson making a strong case for the worst Briton of all time?

Without his blatant political opportunism, we’d still be in the EU, he’d have never become PM and potentially thousands of lives would have been saved; And yet my biggest worry is that he’s not intelligent enough, or is lacking in self-awareness or empathy to understand the scale and gravity of the situation his entitlement and libido has inflicted upon the nation

  4. Wonder when Boris gets his knighthood and goes to sit in the House of Lords?

What a crappy system we have. This odious toad should be shunned from public life – instead he will be milking the public purse for the rest of his life.

  5. Incoming unpopular opinion alert, so be warned. Why are most of you surprised by this? Most of you have jobs, or are members of university groups. Some of you probably operate at a senior decision-making level where what you decide will impact heavily on other people. Would any of your WhatsApp messaging stand scrutiny years afterwards, if you were being held to account? Why do you expect politicians and advisers, struggling to set the agenda when they have incoming fire from all quarters to behave like fully organised automatons with preprogrammed responses and strategies, whilst keeping the language CofE standard? It doesn’t and will never happen. What matters is the eventual decision they reached, and that is what is being tested by the enquiry.

  6. Easily the worst PM post-war (can’t really comment on earlier PMs as I don’t know much about them).

Can’t believe people voted this guy into power. I’m naturally to the right but I couldn’t vote this clown because I knew he’d be shit – it was easy to see coming
