I bought this lighter somewhere in Spain. I have gotten the joke translated back to me multiple times, but I don’t understand what “mi mi mi” is possibly referring to. What is this a reference to?

Emotional, childish or sissy begging: “He wasn’t hired for the job and started with mimimi that his mother was ill and he needed the money to treat her.” Stubborn irrational refusal to accept what is plainly true. Eg: “Germany deservedly won the 2014 World Cup. Any other opinion is mimimi.”
It’s an onomatopoeia that should imitate whining.
Mi Mi Mi is a common thing you say when the other person whining/flaming and you think it’s ridiculous.
In Germany if somone – in your eyes – acts unesseccary whiny in an attempt to get attention or sympathy you cwould mimic that person saying “Mimimi” or “mimimimimi”.
As in: “That’s how you sound in my ears.”

“I am just hearing whiny bla bla bla”
