House adjourns in disarray as support for Jordan looks weaker than expected

  1. I’d love to live in a world where Republicans pay any political price for their incompetence.

  2. Well, Jordan is kind of an abrasive and whiny piece of shit. I can’t imagine anybody liking him, even Republicans who have done similar despicable things in their lives.

  3. Seriously, this was not a great outcome for Jordan. They held a confidence vote afterwards (would you vote for Jordan if it was on the floor), and he still has 55 against him.

Unless they do some remarkable negotiations over the weekend, it’s looking every bit as difficult for Jordan to secure the position as Scalise.

Which might be a good thing since it will weaken the Freedom Caucus’ leverage. Jeffries and Dems might get the GOP to put up a compromise candidate that will at least be slightly better than an arsonist like Jordan.

  4. This would be so funny if there wasn’t two wars going on while a looming government shutdown

The US needs to get with the program and have a mechanism where new elections can be called like most other countries if the party in power can’t govern.

It’s clear that Republicans can’t govern

  5. I mean he did all the right things to get republican support. Worshiped the orange deity, partook in sex crimes. What else does he need to do?!

  6. > Jordan won 124 votes against his rival in the race, Rep. Austin Scott, R-Ga., who won 81. It was followed by a second secret ballot vote on whether lawmakers would support Jordan on the House floor, in which he won 152 votes.

He only gained 28 additional votes on the second secret ballot. That is terrible. He has zero chance

  7. Jordan is a schmuck. Of course there’s not enough support to elect him.

  8. If this isn’t evidence that Republicans aren’t interested in governing, I don’t know what is.

  9. GOP: “good week at work guys let’s go home for the weekend”

  10. Has been in Congress for 16 years and has never passed a single piece of legislation.

    The modern Republican Party.

  11. In normal situations, this would be fucking hilarious. But when we need an actual government in charge of important things like war in the middle east, government shutdown, ukraine etc, it loses the humor very quick.

  12. It’s still crazy to me how quickly Scalise exited the running. Didn’t even get try to start a voting marathon.

  13. Not wanting to drive traffic to the website, anyone know when the House will reconvene? Are they going to give it another go tomorrow or wait until Monday?

  14. Good. The notion that this asshat could be 2 heartbeats away from being president is worse than any horror movie.

  15. ‘He added that he was “surprised” at the level of support Jordan received, adding, “I thought it would be higher.”‘

I guess that’s why you are in the f***dom caucus.

  16. “Howler monkey throwing excrement has difficulty controlling other howler excrement throwing monkeys, more at 11.”

I say let it happen, let’s just rip off the bandaid. I would love see his profile elevated especially due to some unconfirmed allegation…

  17. Fox News actually describing the *republicans* as being in disarray? *shocked pikachu face*

  18. It feels slightly like any remotely ‘moderate’ Republicans are taking this opportunity to try to steer the party back into their hands but none of them are bold enough to step up and lead, so this too will fail.

  19. Gym Jordan should not be within sniffing distance of Speaker of the House. Nor should he be a member of Congress. He is a traitor, a moron, and a miserable human being.

  20. As a non American, can I ask, if elected as speaker, would he have to wear a jacket? And is that the problem?

  21. When all you practice is obstruction, all you know is obstruction.

  22. Gotta love how spectacularly out-of-touch the GOP is. A day after Steve SKKKalise’s speaker bid went up in a ball of smoke, they immediately nominate another belligerent old white guy — this time, one who enabled the mass sexual abuse of young men in his care.

  23. Weaker than expected?

He literally just lost the “primary” vote within his party for speaker to a guy who then immediately stepped down. Like, what do they think was “expected” after that, lol.

  24. I literally can’t fathom a universe in which jim jordan is in consideration for speaker of the house. I can’t fathom our current reality. It’s unfathomable. I have no fathoms left to give.

  25. There’s not a lot of fireworks going on… but this has shaped up to be a defining battle for the soul of the Republican Party.

There are those (a large majority) willing to go the Nihilist/Anarchist route with Gym Jordan at the helm of what would be a massive clown car trying to careen the country into some new authoritarian fascist shit hole…

BUT not all of the caucus feels that way. The “constitutional” Republicans, we could call them. The Reagan Republicans. The more “classic” Republicans that still have some kind of grip on the constitution…

They are not bending the knee. They are, actually, fighting back.

As I said there’s no fireworks or anything… but the battle is, finally, on.

  26. Well Cruz endorsed him. And when I saw that I was reminded of the Al fraken quote:

I like Ted Cruz more than most of my other colleagues like Ted Cruz. And I hate Ted Cruz.

  27. They may as well just elect Hakeem Jeffries since he’ll be the Speaker any way in 15 months.

  28. “You get one ballot, then it’s me. America wants me.” – Jim Jordan

No Jim, nobody fucking wants you you fucking troglodyte.

  29. He has been in the House for 16 years and has never had a bill he has sponsored get signed into law. He is not a good lawmaker.
