Ron DeSantis tried to make a Florida college conservative. Now the students are fleeing. The school lost a large percentage of its faculty this year after DeSantis’s “hostile takeover” of the school.

That is what DeSatan and right-wing prevaricator Christopher Rufo deserve. Kids just want to learn and be themselves authentically, and these right-wing puttocks and zounderkites are just trying to grift and exploit education for Koch Brother money. DeSatan and his Christian nationalist cronies deserve nothing but condemnation for trying to turn America into Gilead!

Hope these kids are accepted to other schools and their credits follow with them! Proud of them for standing up to fascism!

  2. DeSantis completely ruined the beautiful culture of that school with his fascist policy changes!

  3. The dumbening.

Have fun in a few years when you need educated people to keep shit together, but everyone with a brain has left.

  4. Imagine thinking students want to to go into debt to be brainwashed by fascists?

    Just Republican things.

  5. Conservatives have this perception that everything they think must be done is correct. They keep trying the same things and they keep failing, but they keep trying.

  6. May I suggest DeFascist, over your current nickname for him? We of The Satanic Temple can’t stand him, he goes against all our Tenets.

  7. >Rufo said earlier this year that the goal of what has been described as a “hostile takeover of a liberal college” was to “provide an alternative for conservative families in the state of Florida to say there is a public university that reflects your values.”

They just don’t get it. Universities (and other institutions filled with educated people) aren’t liberal because of any decision that anyone made, or because of indoctrination, or anything like that. They’re liberal because smart people *decide* to be liberal. There’s a reason that conservative attempts at replicating liberal institutions and replacing them with conservative ones are largely failures. It’s because they simply are not competent enough to execute them well.

Rufo and DeSantis are finding out that running a college is a competitive business (especially with the looming [enrollment cliff](https://www.bestcolleges.com/news/analysis/looming-enrollment-cliff-poses-serious-threat-to-colleges/)), and the market for an ultra-conservative college is small and is already satisfied by the likes of Hillsdale, Bob Jones, Liberty, BYU, etc. New College will probably shutter within 5 years.

  8. 36 of the 100 staff have quit and 27% of the students have left. That’s astounding. Seems like everything DeSantis touches is poisoned. It’s good to know that young people and the smart adults around them aren’t falling for his BS.

  9. He accomplished his goal to ruin already pitiable education in Florida

  10. Republicans hate education because education teaches students to reject Republican propaganda.

  11. Was that his goal, to make it right wing?

I always thought the real goal was to make it so undesirable for students and faculty to be there that enrollment drops, so they have to close the school and sell the land (it’s SUPER prime waterfront real estate) to developers.

He gets to kill a liberal school AND line pockets of his donors.

  12. Good news is it’s now pudding day every Thursday in the empty cafeteria.

  13. All the schools banning books and arresting teachers are going to learn the same lesson. I will pull up stakes and move rather than send my child to a school run by right wing nut jobs.

  14. **Nobody** wants to be as immoral and bamboozled as DeSatanis.

  15. See, the thing Republicans forget is that everybody still has Free Will and until they take that away all of their plans are going to turn out just like this.

  16. This is literally his plan. Run off educated people, and win re-election.

  17. I can’t stop seeing him in high heels. It’s fucking hilarious. His wife is pegging him.

  18. I’m just going to say it; this is doomed to fail because 99 times out of 100 a position that is politically based does not hold up to academic scrutiny as it is the subjective being tested against the objective.

  19. If you want to keep Florida red, you gotta keep it dumb.

  20. One of their newly hired professors, who had gone there as a student, been very successful in another business moved there just weeks before DeSantis pulled this fuckery. The professor resigned and withdrew his $600,000 pledged donation to the school.

  21. eventually the republicans might get their way. all the liberals will flee Florida, and the racist, evangelical, flat earther, nazi-worshiping idiots will flock there to fight off ever worsening hurricanes and rising sea levels, with help from no one but their guns, in their ideal, totalitarian dictatorship, and be free* to worship their psychotic, orange jesus

    ^*freedom ^may ^be ^severely ^limited

  22. Gee it’s almost like the conservative ideology is incredibly unpopular with the majority of the young and highly educated…

  23. Out of all the horrible things DeSantis has done to Florida, this one hits home for me the most. My sister and many friends are alumni. New College once was the shining star of the Public University system in Florida. I know many who passed on an Ivy league education to go to New College and stay in Florida. You would think keeping smart people in your state would be good politics but not for the modern republican party.

What is so striking to me about DeSantis is how clearly corrupt and fascist he is. He installed the former speaker of the Florida house as the university president, giving him a 700k year job almost twice what the former president was getting paid to push a political agenda. Does this remind you of what should happen in America? This is clear as day corruption.

  24. Graduated from NCF just over a year ago, and still have friends there. It’s a complete disaster – entire faculty departments have quit, forcing people to switch majors or leave the school. Anyone (students or faculty) who can leave has, and the new students are discovering that the college just can’t carry out basic functions anymore. Nearly the entire staff has left or been fired, and if they’ve been replaced it is with unqualified cronies or people who have no idea what they’re doing (or both).

  25. My FIL moved to the US from Canada years ago. It’s shocking just how much of the GOP kool aid he’s drunk. This man never went to uni (unlike his daughters, or me) and yet he sends money to these “action funds” because, according to him, liberals have “taken over” higher education. He doesn’t even want to hear that it’s education that makes one liberal and not the other way around. I can see why the GOP wants to destroy education and the critical thinking / broader worldview that a decent education brings.

  26. Less educated people mostly vote republicans. So it’s a win for Florida GOP. They already have tons of old people who vote republican. Now they keep younger population less educated or drive them out of state.

  27. What a disconnected, continually misfiring, lethargic turd. Also, he looks like ham.
