Doh! A deer.
They also don’t run straight across. I saw a Garda car spook a pair as they crossed and they nearly jumped on the bonnet.

Yep, I live near a road with a deer crossing point. 3 killed at the spot in the last year and they can cause a lot of expensive damage to cars. Once they are freaked out they do the exact thing you dont want them to do and run out in front of your car. Now I drive through that section at 40kph and am constantly scanning the mountain for signs of them about to run across the road.
Been trying to get the council to erect deer signs to warn tourists at the spot but no luck yet. The last one killed was only about 6 months old, its whole neck was split open. Passed by the scene again an hour later and it was gone, someone snatched it pretty quick so they could make baby Bambi burgers for dinner.
