I don’t get it. If I own a truck, it’s illegal for me to modify the exhaust system, and illegal for somebody to sell me a modified exhaust system.
But if I have a John Deere tractor, I have a “right to repair” and can disable the exhaust system to my heart’s content (oh, btw 99% of these John Deere “repairs” involve removing the DEF system so it’s pretty much the same goddamn thing) and the company even has to sell me parts regardless of whether they own a consumer-level parts department or not.
Granted, this isn’t going to do anything in a world where I can buy a Mac-10 “windchime kit.”
They should confiscate any vehicle that has one of these devices, fine the owner $50k and sell his vehicle. Anyone who is this much of an asshole deserves no sympathy.
Awesome! They should also track down every a**hole who bought one, confiscate the vehicles to remove them at the owner’s expense, fine them heavily, and suspend their driver’s license.
I’m pro climate, I’d like to keep living on the planet, but this is dumb and we need to stop thinking about things on this tiny scale. Are coal rolling F-250s obnoxious and indefensible? Sure. But <insert tech giant here> could decide servers need to be half a degree cooler and wipe away any progress made by punishing a random third party to people who want to mess with their car.
Set up inspections roadside, wait for them to roll by, pull them off the road and impound them, bring them back to standard and auction them off to registered food producers for use on farms.
Rolling coal is such small D energy.
Well, looks like I’m-a halfta put a still on my truck so I can roll Moonshine since thems Damn Yankees ar gettin rid of Coal Rollin’!
My neighbor ruined two trucks with those things. They now sit on the side of the road near my house. He’s tried to sell them a few times, but when people see what he’s done to them, they rightly walk away. I have no pity for him, but I wish he would put his broken trucks somewhere else.
