We got our yearly water bill for 2022 and it’s more than 3k! We’re a household of 2… this cannot be right! I checked online for average yearly water consumption costs and it seems way too expensive for our situation. we live in a Neubau flat with heated floors if that makes a difference but I don’t believe we consumed so much water… we were also away for a month last year.
I don’t really understand the bill we got (in the picture), what’s should I look for in here?
We are renting the flat and got the bill from our landlord/Immonbilien.
What can we do in this situation? Thank you

  1. Sorry I meant heating and water costs, not just water 🫣 but still pricey!

  2. Did you track your actual consumption on the meters? If you live in Neubau, they are usually available in the closet and in the bathroom.
Do the numbers match? It would only work if you actually tracked your numbers in the beginning of the year and then at the end 🙁

I have to say we (household of 2 ppl) once were carelless with water and heating, and had to pay 1700 euro on top.

  3. Well hand you checked your meters to ensure that there is no issue with them?

Do you always have your heating turned on? I’m my flat I had an issue with the heating. It would be on even when turned off because of some valve defect.

The amount of water and heating seems abnormally high for just 2 people. Something is wrong or you are taking 10 immersion showers a day.

  4. People typically pay around 200 euro per month for heating and water. That would be 2.400 euro per year. The prices were super high in 2022. So your bill doesn’t sound that high. Next year, be more careful with consumption.

  5. I live alone and checked my Techem statement. My cold water consumption is 40000 cubic meters, which is actually about half of your consumption with two people. But my hot water consumption is only 9000 cubic meters. Do you bathe permanently or do you leave the hot water running forever when you shower? That would explain why you use so much hot water and why you have to pay so much. Can’t anything say about the heating because I have normal radiators.
