Well, looks like adverts are coming to Disney+ in the UK.

  1. Well shiver my timbers Dodgy firestick to the rescue

  2. Well in that case, I, without notice, might choose to sail the high seas instead.

    Arrrrrrrrr.

  3. There’s a cheaper ad tier introduced. They’re not automatically dropping people to that tier or forcing them to have ads…

    > There is currently only a single price tier for Disney+ in the UK, which costs £7.99 per month, but come November there will be three new tiers available. These are:

    > – Standard with ads: which will cost £4.99 per month and offer 1080p video and the ability for two people to watch on different devices.

    > – Standard: £7.99 per month – the same as above, but without ads and with the ability to download videos to watch offline.

    > – Premium: £10.99 per month – offering 4k video, downloads, and up to four different devices at once.

  4. I keep forgetting to unsub to Disney, thanks for the reminder.

  5. Price rises *and* adverts? Well now I’m definitely going to subscribe!

  6. Amazon already said they were going to start doing it and I’m waiting until the moment the first ad shows up to unsubscribe, I will do the same with Disney Plus if it ever happens

  7. Grasping cunts. So I’ll have to pay an extra 3 quid a month to still get 4K, and I’ll still get “promotional content, branding, sponsorship messaging…”

Arrr, me hearties, I’ll be seeing yer on the ocean blue!

  8. I cancelled my sub a while ago because the quality of content was going down the drain, happy to see further justification to not resub.

  9. Just cancelled Netflix and Disney is next. It’s back to torrents for me. Fuck them.

  10. Prime is putting in Ads as well and you have to pay more than the current amount to get rid of them, rather than them offering a lower tier.

  11. I think it’s a good idea that streaming services offer a cheaper plan with ads, but these plans should be *really* cheap given they’ll be making the money from the ads anyway. I’m also so tired of prices going up with subscriptions all the bloody time, they’re not exactly putting out better content to warrant it.

  12. So it’s cheaper to get a VPN and an eyepatch, cool.

  13. It’s bad enough that I need to check justwatch for every single TV series just to figure out which streaming service I need to use.

But I don’t want to sign up indefinitely for 6 different streaming services and have to keep signing up and leaving services. New series of Futurama, that’s Disney+ for a month, Frasier is Paramount+ for a month. Or old Frasier on channel 4 but with ads. NowTV has an ad free tier which still shows ads

Now with different tiers with ads and quality options, it genuinely just seems easier to go back to torrenting

  14. From Limewire to BitTorrent, how downloading has saved me crazy money.

  15. Some people tell me “You have a much better experience with piracy ” they’re not wrong

  16. No adverts are why I even bothered streaming content over physical media in the first place. It was convenient and affordable, and ad free.

Guess they’ll be losing my subscription.

  17. Everything is so finely sliced these days that if you can’t be arsed to sail the seas (like me, I’ve never worked out how to find what I want) then rotating round them seems better.

We only get Disney anyway as it’s a freebie from our bank.

  18. Goodbye Disney+

May your ship sink and pirates prosper.

  19. Please for the love of god download Plex and forgo these enshitified subscription services

  20. Just too many subscription services. They need to work together to give us a better experience.

It’s a bit like betamax vs video or HDDVD vs bluray. The consumer is getting buggered as companies can’t work together to make one decent experience.

  21. So, one of the things on my to-do list for tomorrow is to sign up for Club Lloyd current account as it includes Disney+ for a year, and cancel our ongoing subscription.

But now I worry that the free subscription might get downgraded to the crappiest tier .. anyone know whether they can change subscription tier after it has started?

  22. It’s all going back to cable / satellite days, yet much more expensive as we’ve all been herded into paying subs to each media company – because subs seem cheaper. Add them all up and they change their EULAs to price gouge and add ads back in. Like a frog in a pot.

  23. Looks like streaming just became worse than sailing the high seas… when will companies learn…

  24. Just sail the seven seas. Why give money to the mouse?

  25. I was just thinking today how in the UK it’s not acceptable to have a fee AND adverts.

I wouldn’t even pay £1 a month if the service included adverts, it just feels wrong.

  26. There’s a guide to all of the new plans here [https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/news/2023/08/disney-hike-prices-new-plans-adverts-streaming/#:~:text=Disney%2B%20subscribers%20will%20be%20moved,adverts%20on%20one%20of%20them](https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/news/2023/08/disney-hike-prices-new-plans-adverts-streaming/#:~:text=Disney%2B%20subscribers%20will%20be%20moved,adverts%20on%20one%20of%20them).

I will be ditching Disney+. £8 was just about right. £10.99 for 4k is mental.
