  1. You wouldn’t believe CCTV or CGTN so why believe rfa

  2. Its so sad and disheartening to see that slavery still exists on this enormous scale in the 21st century

What has the world come to?

  3. What the Israelis did to the Gaza people for so long was even worse

  4. I don’t really understand how these articles are sourced. They basically all rely on sourcing from [Shohret Hoshur](https://www.nytimes.com/2015/08/01/world/asia/a-voice-from-chinas-uighur-homeland-reporting-from-the-united-states.html), a well-known Uighur journalist which China accused of stirring unrest in the region for at least 15 years.

But, at the same time, RFA also says basically every smarphone in Xinjiang is monitored, as far back as [2016](https://www.rfa.org/english/news/uyghur/police-increase-checks-of-smartphone-users-in-xinjiang-01082016133532.html) and reported in 2018 that everyone in the region is forced to [install an app to monitor their smartphone activity.](https://www.rfa.org/english/news/uyghur/report-uyghurs-in-china-forced-to-install-surveillance-app-that-leaves-their-data-unsecured-04102018164341.html)

There’s a Uighur journalist that China believes helped instigate deadly riots in 2009, and in 2015 he does a long profile with the New York Times laying out how he sources information from the region. Since then, there is vastly more survelliance and monitoring in the region, including apps on smartphones to monitor everything. But he’s still able to get two employees at a Xinjiang camp to do interviews with him.

Either this guy is the James Bond of journalism, or the sourcing is maybe questionable.

  5. Atheist and agnostic ideas seem very common to confucian history, so it’s no wonder that china’s population accepted atheism before any other country. It’s almost like agnosticism and theist criticism has become ingrained in the memetic DNA of chinese culture due to how long confucian ideology has impacted the country.

  6. I stumbled upon videos from a indian traveler called Nomadic Tour on Youtube, who went into Xinjiang and managed to go into one of their poorest region. This completely changed my perception of the situation compared to what is being portrayed in the media. I recommend his channel, for those who are curious, as he is very unbiased and really tried to capture their daily life. It’s also recent, like two month ago, and has subtitles.

  7. Shame they don’t receive as much attention as Palestinians. Islamic countries don’t seem to care.

  8. Where’s the outrage from all the Muslim communities over the treatment of the Uyghur’s? That is literally ethnic cleansing going on over there on a mass scale, and the middle east response seams silent.
